I am trying to find this poem/song that Gonff sings/tells.

It's where he eats one of Abbess Germaine's cakes, then when she comes around she sees Gnoff standing by the window with a bow. He tells her that a hawk/eagle took her cake away and he shooed it awsy. She rewards him with another cake for his "bravery".

I can't find it any were, I need your help!

Gnoff is in the books: Mossflower, The Legend of Luke, Doomwyte, and Mentioned in: Mariel of Redwall, Outcast of Redwall, The Long Patrol, The Sable Quean.

Abbess Germaine is in the books: Mossflower, The Legend of Luke, and Mentioned in: Redwall, Mattimeo, Mariel of Redwall, Outcast of Redwall, The Long Patrol, Loamhedge, The Sable Quean.

So that leaves us with the books: Mossflower, The Legend of Luke, Mariel of Redwall, Outcast of Redwall, The Long Patrol, The Sable Quean.

I looked in the book The Sable Quean and it wasn't in it.

So that leaves the books:  Mossflower, The Legend of Luke, Mariel of Redwall, Outcast of Redwall, The Long Patrol

If you find it please write it here and say what book, chapter and page it is on.  Thanks.

I will also keep you guys updated.

Edit:

Thanks to a few Forum Redwall nerds it has been found! It's in Mariel of Redwall, chapter 8, pages 57-58 (hard back).

Go to Amazon.com.

There's a "search inside" option for every book. That should help you.

Haha, I found it. It just so happens that I had just read that song in the past few days and I remembered where it was. It is in Mariel of Redwall close to the beginning of Chapter 8.

Yes it is in Mariel of Redwall. Dandin sang it because he was a descendant of Gonff. As Russano said it around chapter 8.

"It happened in springing time,
When all the leaves were green,
And once again Abbess Germaine,
A-baking cakes had been.
She stirred them good and mixed them fine,
With honey, nuts and flour,
Then put them out to cool awhile,
Until the teatime hour.
But then along came bold Sir Gonff,
His eyes a-twinkling bright,
A cake he'd set his heart upon,
For suppertime that night.
He took the greatest cake of all, from off the window ledge
And hid it in a secret place, close by the forest edge.
The Abbess came to check her cakes, about the mid-noontide
And found the mouethief with a bow, and arrows at his side.
'Why stand you there, O Gonff,' said she,
'With bow and arrows armed?'
'My good Abbess' the thief replied, 'You must not be alarmed.
I saw an eagle steal your cake, he swooped then flew away.
So I stand guard upon your cakes lest he returns today.'
The Abbess chose another cake, which to Sir Gonff she gave,
'Take this reward, young mouse,' she said,
'because you were so brave.
and when upon each baking day, my lovely cakes I make,
I'll save a special one for you, for your kind action's sake.'"

DOCTOR: How is that news to anyone?

-Sometime later, the second mate was unexpectedly rescued by the subplot, which had been trailing a bit behind the boat (and the plot). The whole story moved along.

It's in Mariel of Redwall, towards the beginning somewhere, sang by Dandin.
