-Sometime later, the second mate was unexpectedly rescued by the subplot, which had been trailing a bit behind the boat (and the plot). The whole story moved along.

Not likely, the force doesn't work in this Prison, and it doesn't work on me!  ;D And the bars will turn into a wall, and the cell will fill with water if you try the force on them.  :)
