It might have been a mistake on BJ's part. Sometimes big mistakes that have little way of being spotted, like this one, sometimes get through.
That's what I was thinking, but I was hoping someone had another explanation.

Well, the only real other explanation is that Swartt was older than he appeared.

Life is too short to rush through it.

Or maybe thoughts of revenge kept him going...  ;D

In the beginning of the book I think Mossflower was going on but in the second part I think it was after it.
Never trust a smiling pirate.  :D

I can do that because I'm awesome.

I'm not so sure that blood wrath is something to keep creatures alive for a long time. Also, Swartt didn't seem like the character to get blood wrath.

Life is too short to rush through it.

At the beginning of Outcast of Redwall it was winter...the same winter when Martin got captured? Could be.

I've only known one character to stay alive for a long period of time because of Bloodwrath - Lord Asheye. He was so fierce with the Bloodwrath when e was young that he lived a longer Life.

But that would still make Swartt very, very old for the rest of the book.
