Asara prepared to counter his charge. She ducked- right into his suddenly upward-thrusting blade. She gasped as the deadly blade sliced through her tunic and gouged a fairly shallow (but bloody and quite painful) wound on her underside.

At the height of Adrain's thrust, the point of his dirk was just pricking the skin underneath her chin.

Breathing raggedly, Asara began to lower her weapon. Then she pushed up and behind with her powerful back legs, shoving her away from her opponent. Scrambling to get back on her paws, she tore a strip of her tunic and bound the remains of the garment around her wound.
A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight!

It's looks like might win this, thought Adrain. But he still regretted having mercy, he could get hurt.
He pulled out his mace, and advanced. He twirled it above his head, gaing speed. He then swiped sideways and down at her right temple.

Asara was fortunate that Adrain had to cross the distance between them and get his mace spinning. Her only chance was to fall and roll away from the stoat, which is what she did. His mace slammed down on nothing but rock. The hare got to her paws and lunged, hoping that it wasn't easy for Adrain to lift his mace.

Adrain saw the lunge. He was only half prepared for it. He couldn't lift his mace in time, and spun. He pulled out his dirk, and he swiped up and down with the mace, but also lunged forward with the dirk.

The mace hit Asara's shoulder at an angle, turning her so that she took Adrain's thrust across her chest, rather than through it. Still, she was quite damaged by this time; her shoulder hurt abominably (it was most likely dislocated), and she had two gaping slashes across her front. If she lived- which she was beginning to doubt- then she would be physically scarred forever.

Asara, bloodied and in pain, staggered to her paws and spat at her opponent. She refused to give up and die for this stoat. "Yew h'ain't gettin' me- that- h'easy, stoat. H'I'll fight h'until there's not h'a breath left h'in my body. H'if yew slay me, you'll do h'it for h'an 'igh price."

Lifting her blade and glaring at Adrain, she charged. "Euuulaaaliaaa!!!"

OOC: Sorry if it seems like I'm making her super-lucky and semi-invincible. She's not, I'm just having fun and want to drag this thing out. If you want to end it though, lemme know. :)

Ooc: No, your not THAT damaged. Your fine  ;)

"Hm, it appears. I. Cannot convince you to,believe vermin can be good, also, you are technically the one who started this. I only tried to kill you because I thought you were going to kill me. Woodlanders never take a chance." he said, sidestepping the lunge. He swung the mace up from behind her, at her neck.

Adrain's words barely registered, as Asara was already charging, and they wouldn't have their full impact on her until after his mace did. It hit her squarely between the shoulders, knocking her off her paws and sending her sprawling. She thought about how easy it would be to simply lie there, but the part of her that had spat at Adrain screamed at her to get up again and lift her sword in a defensive position. She did, just as the stoat's words truly reached her. She snorted.

"H'I'm the h'one 'oo started this? 'Oo was h'it that snuck h'up be'ind me h'an' tried t'stab me h'in th'back? H'as fer vermin- h'I've seen too much h'of their work t'fool m'self h'into thinkin' they're goodbeasts. They don't give chances, which h'is why woodlanders don't jolly well take h'any."

OOC: Well, Asara hasn't taken a lot of injuries, but she's still pretty beat up. A couple of gashes on her chest, a dislocated shoulder, plus a bunch of scrapes and bruises... Nothing fatal yet though, I suppose. :) It just feels like a lot.

"If I'm so unforgiving, then have I shown you mercy?" if you ere born a vermin, and everybeast hated you, how would you feel?" he said without showing emotion. He then tucked his mace in his pouch and ran at her. He swung the dirk down and and o the side, just below her left shoulder.

Asara had braced herself as best she could for the oncoming strike. At the last second, she stepped to the side, leaving her sword-point where it was so that the blade was at an angle away from herself. It was intended to redirect Adrain's dirk, turnin it aside while allowing him to run past. Then. Then she would finally have an opportunity to put the stoat on the defensive.

Adrain was not prepared for this. He lifted tried to duck, and theblade gasheshis forehead. He fell to the ground, and began to get up.

Asara spun as Adrain fell, and held her sword point to his throat as he began to stand. Her eyes narrowed for a moment, then she drew back the blade- and stuck it firmly in the ground.

"Yew spared m'life, h'an' h'I'm 'onour-bound t'do the same. H'I propose h'a five-minute respite, so we can recover, then get back t'killin' h'eachother more h'efficiently. What do ye say, stoat?"

OOC: Adrain can totally reject the respite, if you want to. It's probably more to his advantage to keep attacking anyway. :) (Yes, I am advising you on how to kill my character. I'm strange like that.)

Adrain could see in the hare's eyes that she thought he would win by going on. But the gash had stopped his combo mode. "I agree" he said. Besides, he could always backstabbing if it got neccasary.

Asara let out a barely audible sigh of relief and sank down against the wall. Among her supplies was a basic healing kit, with bandages and such. Opening the kit, Asasa tossed some bandages to Adrain. "'Ere. For your wound." Then she turned to her own injuries. Working with competent efficiency, she bandaged the gashes on her chest. Now came the painful part- the hare gritted her teeth and popped her shoulder back into place. A muffled yelp escaped her. At least her shoulder was functional again.

Adrain bandage his head, and waited for the five minutes to be over.

(Should we get back to dueling in the next post?)

OOC: Yep. :) Sorry if having a respite bugged you.

BIC: At the end of five minutes, Asara stood, brushed off her now-tattered tunic, and drew her sword. "H'all right then! Now that we've settled h'our life debt, let's get to h'it." She took up a defensive stance, waiting for Adrain to attack.
