If you're going to look at from that perspective though, then it was really more about the relationship between Mara and her father (Urthstripe). Samkim + Arula/ Mara + Pikkle (I think that's how you spell it) were co-primary story lines. The four characters together were fairly equal, though Pikkle is a little bit more sideshow than say Arula.

i was about to say that i wish the hedgehogs were used more as heroes than they are, but then i realised that i think i actually rather like the hedgehogs just the way they are, and that may well be the reason i love them so. maybe i just want more of them; want them crammed into the stories until no one can move without impailing themselves

And........ back on topic... I wish there were more Pine Martin baddies. And stoats! There was like one...? main villain who was a stoat that I can remember (Vilu Daskar). There were way too many rats!
