It's an American holiday celebrating when the pilgrims reached the New World safely. It's called 'Thanksgiving' because they thanked God for delivering them across the Atlantic.

The snow here just melted.
Dreams, dreams are untapped and writhing. How much more real are dreams than that paltry existence which we now call reality? How shall we ascend to that which humanity is destined? By mastering the dreamworld of course. That is how, my pupils, that is how.

Our snow ain't gonna melt anytime soon. We had a snow day yesterday. ::)

Oh, I vaguely remember someone telling me it was about thanking the Natives for helping them.

That's what I've always seen in media, fan fiction and comics (written by Americans by the way), hrm

Quote from: Online sourceThanksgiving is a time to be thankful for what you have. It originated with the pilgrims and Indians getting together to "give thanks" (thanksgiving) to God.

One of the very first Thanksgiving days actually occurred before the arrival of the Pilgrims. This festival was completely religious in nature, and did not involve any feasting. On 4 December 1619, a group of settlers from England arrived at Berkeley Plantation on the James River, now known as Charles City, Virginia. This group dedicated this day of their arrival as a Day of Thanksgiving to God.

Yup. About sums it up. It's mainly a religeous holiday, but like Christmas has become not so much.

Courage: Not only the willingness to die manfully, but also the determination to live decently.

It's been forced to become unreligious.

The "Indians" as they are so called in the "Online Source" *narrows eyes angrily* did not worship God so obviously that first sentence isn't true unless they're being like "the pilgrims were giving thanks to God, I don't really care what the 'Indians' (still has eyes narrowed) were doing" or "the pilgrims were giving thanks to the Christian God and then the 'Indians' (even more narrowed eyes) were giving thanks to their pantheon of spirits and gods and stuff"

....The way I said that probably sounds racist or insensitive, gah!

Release your bias, please, and know that the pilgrims gave thanks to God whether or not the Indians partook in such thanks.

We had a couple of inches of snow, but it's mostly gone now. Something tells me that this is just a little taste of what we're going to see this winter.
