It is small, but yet great.
It so simple, and so common.

Maybe some,
Even hold together your bed?

A nail or a screw?

I am monstrous, green and tall (to bugs)
But am also the smallest of all. (To us)
I live inside and above the ground (roots inside, stem above)
Sometimes I'm the only one around. (A field full of grass)
I tower up to touch the sky, (to bugs again)

Inside me I hold a mighty nation (bugs!)
Which to some brings pure elation, (some people love bugs)
But to others it brings fear (some people are afraid of bugs)
Which saddens me, for I hold it dear.
To know my size is no easy task,
it changes depending on who you ask. (Us or bugs)
If my riddle confuses you,

The 'inside' part is the confusing bit. If you had said 'beneath', or 'among', or 'with', it might have made a tad more sense.
