you know aht I like the most? The simple broadsword. HACK! SLASH! CHOP!

Can't argue with that logic... ;D

I like rapiers too. I think they were used mainly in duels, but do correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't laugh at me...I want to learn sword-fighting (and I really need to exercise). However, I don't know where I can do so.

Thanks, MatthiasMan, for the avatar!

You could see if you have a local Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) group in your vicinity.

The Mask

Kendo is sorta sword fighting. DO you know any places which teach it?

Not sure if they have those. Thank you though :) I may have to do some more research.

In the meantime, I'm wondering. Why are katanas so popular? (No flame wars, please)

It might have to do with the whole "mysterious east" thing, or perhaps Japan's tendency toward extravagance; another thing is how they're made, by folding and welding the steel numerous times, giving the steel a "magical" element. (Of course, vikings were doing that for nearly a millennia before  Japan did, so I don't know what the hype's all about.)

Indeed, they are often considered the pinnacle of swordmaking. However, it's also possible to make swords of different types with the same techniques, so much of their reputed abilities is hype. And no, they can not slice through a quarter-inch steel plate (Yes, I've heard that one).

Courage: Not only the willingness to die manfully, but also the determination to live decently.

The Mask

I've heard that apparently they're fairly light but strong. However I just like how they look  :D

Yeah, people like them because they look elegant and cool. Or at least, that's why I like them.

"Understood." Will looked at Nico. "Will you be my buddy?"
"You're a dork," Nico announced.

They have indeed a very elegant and streamlined look.

Every well-made sword should have those properties. ;)

Has anyone ever read a book about the arms and armour collected by the Metropolitan Museum? The armour there is beautiful.

The Curved Saber of San Martìn is one of the most beautiful of its kind. Granted, it wasn't really meant to be used on a fight, but it could REALLY cut its way thru anything if necessary.

This is a sword that is as beautiful as it is effective. And it really makes you show some respect for its wielder.
