  I just asked, and they swear to me that they're up to nothing.  I think they're telling the truth.  Possibly the dragons I got them from are to blame?  Something like trying to get them to grow fast so they can sell them?  Maybe like those disgusting products they use on animals to make them get larger so they can eat them faster...?
