"No, Garth.Lumian wanted you to go." Arya said, trying to sound reassuring.

Garth sighed shakily. "You're right; there was no way anybeast was to know what could have happened. But I can't help feeling guilty. At least. . . at least you're alive."

"Yes, at least least I'm alive, and you're alright. If you had come in a few more days. . . ." Arya murmured, shuddering as she looked at the hole.

The Skarzs

"Don't think about it, Arya; please. Let's get you somewhere you can rest easy, and we'll bury Lumian in a bit."

"Okay. But, Garth, there's one day's worth of provisions down there. Everything else was burnt." Arya said, fervently hoping the squirrel would get the picture.

The Skarzs

Garth flinched. "And his garden was ruined as well. Our choices are really thin; I'm not sure what we're gonna do," he said.

"I can forage a bit." Arya said in a stronger voice.

The Skarzs

"We both will; I have a little left in my pack, and I'm pretty sure I saw a berry bush not far from here on my way back." The squirrel set down his pack.

"Okay." Arya replied, sitting down with a soft bump.

The Skarzs

"I guess we should. . . bury Lumian. You don't have to help if you don't want to."

"I'd rather not." Arya said, remembering the agonized scream she'd heard.

Garth nodded, and went to find a decent place. He dug a shallow hole with a piece of wood and carefully laid the mouse down. Covering it with dirt and some rocks, he bowed his head, and went back to Arya.

Arya was peacefully sleeping, having not really slept for about four or five days.

Garth found Arya asleep, and covered her in the cloak he had from his journey. Going back to the berry bush he had seen earlier, he discovered it was a blueberry bush, and put as many as he could into a fold in his tunic.
