The Mortal Instruments

Spoilers for people who want to read it (AKA no one  ) but I feel like I should say this so people don't get offended at my recommendation after they read City of Glass. If you are uberly completely Christian in every way DO NOT read the Mortal Instruments if you are easily offended when it comes to your religion. Due to most of the Shadowhunters being Christian and believing in God, the actions of the Clave (the group that leads them) are incredibly questionable and pretty much torture. (They keep a Jewish Vampire locked in a cell by using items of his faith against him and refuse to give him blood until he confesses to the lie they've concocted to save the blame on them.) not to mention the main villain keeping the Angel Ithuriel locked in his basement and torturing him.

Then again, my friend who got me into the series is one of those kinds of Christians and she loves it, I suppose it's really all a matter of perspective.

So I'm on the third book in the Mortal Instruments now and regardless of anything I've said before, I now recommend them to everyone, so well written and the plot twists are so well executed.

A progression of my thoughts in City of Glass so far
Oh this is interesting-Holy hell what?-What the hell?-What the hell?-What the hell?-Ithuriel, no-Did that demon try to ugh *shudder*-SEBASTIAN YOU CALLOUS ******* *******! WHO KILLS A NINE YEAR OLD?-What the hell?-What the hell?-D'aw-What the hell?

Sooo, they confuse you and make you swear a lot?

It confuses you at first but its more like WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? or HOW IS THIS HAPPENING?? than Huh, what happened?

I will say this, no series has ever made me feel for the characters more than TMI has and I have never thought of someone fictional I would love so much to kill than Valentine Morgensten except maybe oh I don't know.... THE ENTIRE DARN CLAVE!!!! Seriously there should have been an uprising against those guys, you know, by someone who DOESN'T want to exterminate half-demons even though they're generally good people (Compared to everyone else at least) (That's Valentine by the way)

There is one fundamental problem with the TMI, it doesn't make them worse, in fact it helps them to stay interesting it's just that NEARLY EVERYONE IS A TERRIBLE PERSON well in the beginning at least (I'm not even talking about just the villains here, they're worse though)

BE WARNED! The movie is great, no doubt about that however it only follows the book loosely and the book does everything much better. I watched the film to see if I would like the books but after I read the City of Bones book I really started to dislike the movie

But if you like the movie really DO get the books

I've read the first book, and I really want to read the rest of the series- not sure when I'll get to, though, because I have an insane amount of books to read

Not yet, actually. But only because it's not on Netflix and I haven't gotten around to renting it or anything like that. Hopefully I'll get to see it soon.
