I say Star Trek. I really love all of the moral dilemmas, the analogies for real-life problems, the interesting situations... There's also more of it, and it's not JUST explosions in space, even those are part of it too.

Not that Star Wars is bad- I just prefer ST in pretty much every way.

I've only really seen Trouble With Tribbles and Into Darkness for Star Trek so I'd have to say Star Wars

I resent your description of Star Wars, it's not just things blowing up in space (okay so it might be in the movies) but nearly everything has a compelling plot, even the Clone Wars TV series which got much darker as it went along (Especially those slavery episodes and the one with the premature Order 66)
"In the meantime, no one should roam the camp alone. Use the buddy system."
"Understood." Will looked at Nico. "Will you be my buddy?"
"You're a dork," Nico announced.

Apologies. Yeah, SW definitely had a good plot. Oh, and I'm only speaking to the movies, as that's all I've seen. But yes- let me revise that. Well written, compelling, interesting blowing stuff up in space and sword fighting and gunplay. I definitely enjoyed Star Wars- good sci-fi series. However, I still prefer Star Trek on account of constant problem solving and moral dilemmas.

As an example- there's an episode where nanites get loose in the ship. They're eating a component of the ship's circuits, and reproducing and evolving rapidly. Inside of a few hours, they're a fully sentient and self-aware race, and the crew of the Enterprise has to figure out how to deal with them without genocide.

Does that not sound interesting? To me, it sounds amazing. Though, I definitely see the appeal of Star Wars as well.

Lady Amber

I haven't really watched Star Trek, so I guess Star Wars for me.

Rusvul

If you're at all a fan of any kin of sci-fi, I'd really recommend watching at least one episode of Star Trek. I'd suggest Next Generation, and there's no better place to start than episode one.

Wylder Treejumper

I love Star Wars. Despite my constant ragging of some Trekkies I know, I do enjoy Star Trek, just not as much.

As to the Clone Wars TV series, hated the thing. It was terrible...

-Thomas Paine

"Integrity and firmness is all I can promise; these, be the voyage long or short, shall never forsake me although I may be deserted by all men."
-George Washington

Courage: Not only the willingness to die manfully, but also the determination to live decently.

From the miniscule amount I've seen of them.. Yeah, they looked kinda stupid. But hey, to each his own.

Gwen A. Mouse

Star Wars is nice, but it's gotta be Star Trek all the way. The original series is my favorite, though Picard is definitely the best captain. :) Voyager was just... meh.
"You need to get yourself a better dictionary. When you do, look up genocide. You'll see a little picture of me there and the caption'll read 'over my dead body'!" -The Doctor

Gonff the Mousethief

Starwars is what i like, but like Startrek not much.
I want the world of Tolkien,
The message of Lewis;
The adventure of Jacques,
And the heart of Milne.
But I want the originality of me.

Cornflower MM

What's the difference? Excuse my ignorance - I've never seen either of them. :-\

The Skarzs

Old Star Wars movies VS Old Star Trek movies/episodes? Star Wars.
New Star Wars movies/episode VS New Star Trek movies/episode thing? Star Trek.
Cave of Skarzs

Cave potato.

Ok I like both of them for different reasons. I can't say I like one more than the other. Now that being said I Know more about ST then I do about Star wars.

And Gwen... HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE VOYAGER!  :o... Sorry got a bit carried away with my geekyness. Voyager was my favorite and Janeway was my favorite captain (Picard was good still not better though). Don't get me wrong the rest are all great except for captain Jonathan Archer, he sucked, and Sisko He was a bit weird. No offence to any DS9 fans. He was OK I just didn't get the whole Bajoran religious thing.
I am back... sort of... maybe... Hi?

Rusvul

DS9 is actually one of my favorite ST series. I enjoy the friction between Starfleet, the Bajoran Provisional Government, and the Bajoran religious group. (And Kai Wyn is a jerk.)

@Skarzs: What do you mean by 'old star trek?' If you mean Enterprise, I might agree. I haven't seen much of the first series, but my impression was kinda meh, in comparison with Next Gen and DS9.

Er, if you mean Next Gen, DS9, and Voy, though, I'll have to disagree. Enjoyed those a lot.

I've not seen the most recent ST movies, but the impression I get (And the ones I have seen) seem to be 'Yeah, let's fight a war in space!' instead of what it should be- More of a problem-solving exploratory thing.

Faiyloe

Same here about the new movies. I haven't watched them but I agree. I don't think they are consistent with the rest of the shows.
