In Lord Brocktree Groddil the magician fox kills Ungatt Trunn and then walks away, never to be seen in those lands again. My question is, what became of Groddil? Does he reappear in any of the other books?

Gonff the Mousethief

Hm, an interesting topic. No, he does not appear in any of the other books. I always thought it would be cool if he started the MarlFoxes.

The adventure of Jacques,
And the heart of Milne.
But I want the originality of me.

Sadly, no, he never rappears. It's a shame, really, because I've always thought he had so much potential as a character.

I Believe there is a topic for this somewhere.

Anyway, I always wanted to believe he went off and started his own hoard somewhere. It would be nice if there was a book about it.

The Skarzs

Sounds like grounds for a fan fiction. ;D

I always wondered what happened to him. I have had several speculations as to what happend to him.

- He went off and started his own horde.

- He became a powerful second in command controlling the actually leader like a sear.

- He travailed from group of vermin to group selling his services.
I am back... sort of... maybe... Hi?

The Skarzs

Or perhaps he wandered off randomly trying to a) exact his nonspecific revenge on goodbeasts, or b) attempt to get away from everyone and everything that might bother him, like wars or fealty to another beast.

That's an interesting though Gonff, he might have started with a horde then while exploring the lake his boat was attacked by pike and he made it to the Island. And ended up by build castle Marl and startin the line of Marlfoxes.

Could I use that idea for a fanfiction Gonff?

It's horde, not horde. Sorry. Pet peeve, thanks to Gnoflet. ::)

Well, maybe he just went off, did hios own thing, and got murdered for it? (Wow. That's dark, isn't it? I'm going to start sounding like Rus soon. o.O)

Like the other surviving vermin, he probably spent his days peacefully (as peacefully as vermin can live anyway) until he died of presumably natural causes. Hey, they can't ALL meet a sticky end.

(then again, I think the Ripfang in LB is the same one in Mossflower, so I wouldn't put too much stock in that...)

There's been a lot of debate about Ripfang. I'm not really sure if he was the same one.

I thought he died soon after killing Trunn.
Dreams, dreams are untapped and writhing. How much more real are dreams than that paltry existence which we now call reality? How shall we ascend to that which humanity is destined? By mastering the dreamworld of course. That is how, my pupils, that is how.

These topic seems better suited in the Legends & Myths section.

As far as the conversation though, I find this quite interesting. Grodil (spelling?) was an unusual character, I could see several things happening to him. He could just die of hunger, as foraging is fairly scarce on a beach + he'd be pretty slow with his physical condition. If he did survive, I would guess he'd be a more peaceful vermin. He was only aggressive toward Ungatt as far as I recall, and isn't in the position to be hostile anyway. Though I do find the idea of him starting the Marlfoxes to be a potential end that would be quite fascinating indeed.
