My theory on time travel: You can't go back and change anything, because the current timeline involves you having done that- So you can't go back and kill someone's ancesters, because if you go back and kill someone then they never would have had children in your timeline.

In other words, you can't mess up the timeline because anything you do is factored into the current timeline.

That is, if time travel were to exist, which is doubtful. Er, backwards time travel, anyway.

Wouldn't it just create an alternate reality? I mean, let's say that Joe got drunk and shot Billy. So you go back in time and stop that from happening somehow- invite Billy over for dinner, for instance.

But in your "present", Billy is already dead. So when you altered your "past", you actually created an alternate timeline in which Joe does not shoot Billy. You are now stuck in that timeline.

Which is to say, when you go back to your "present", it's not in the same timeline that it was before. Because in this one, Billy isn't dead.


...I don't know if that made sense, but I hope you get the gist of it, anyway.

But, wouldn't that create a whole different reality, preventing you from getting back to yours? What if Joe shooting Billy prevented Joe from becoming a mass-murderer? Basically I do not think time should be messed with, it is a power far beyond our capabilities.

I probably am in some areas. Like being myself. Okay, that just sounded weird. I am a nerd in being myself. Hmm......
