Jukka the Sling

On this Veterans Day, let's remember those who fought for freedom.

I found an inspirational video to get our gratitude flowing:

I Fought for You

[close]
I would also like to remember several of my relatives who fought for freedom:

My great-grandfather, S. K., who fought in WW2
My great-great-uncle, B. J. C., who fought in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and is now 85 years old
My great-grandmother's brother, H. B., from New Zealand, who fought and died in WWI
My great-grandmother's other brother, S. B., who also served in WWI

If you have any friends or family you'd like to remember, feel free to list them. :)
"The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater." ~J.R.R. Tolkien

My great-grandfather, who stormed the beach at Normandy in WWII, then later took a frag grenade in the leg, had his foot amputated, and received the Purple Heart

My grandfather, who witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and served in the Japanese Theater in WWII

My other grandfather, who served in the AF

My cousin, who was injured in the war in Afghanistan 2 years ago
"'Tis the business of small minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death."
-Thomas Paine

"Integrity and firmness is all I can promise; these, be the voyage long or short, shall never forsake me although I may be deserted by all men."
-George Washington

Courage: Not only the willingness to die manfully, but also the determination to live decently.

The Skarzs

My grandfather who served in Korea.

My dad who was at the Persian Gulf on an aircraft carrier during some skirmishes.

My great uncle who was also in Korea.

And others that I should mention but have unfortunately forgotten.

The Mask

I don't know any of my family that fought in wars.

Interestingly, In Australia, we call it Remembrance day.
I am a squirrel, an otter, a mouse, a fox, a stoat, a ferret, a weasel, a wildcat, a hare, a hedgehog, a badger; I am the master of disguises, The Mask.

Izeroth

My uncle, who served in the Korean War, and my cousin, who was in Afghanistan

Me neither

We also call it Remembrance Day in the UK

Sorry to here that Jukka. Here are mine

My grandpa served in Vietnam and was killed in a helicopter crash.
My dad was in the army, but never deployed.

Dont they do that poppy thing on Rembrance day?
I want the world of Tolkien,
The message of Lewis;
The adventure of Jacques,
And the heart of Milne.
But I want the originality of me.

Aye the Red poppies. Does anyone else know why they're a symbol of war?

Some British guy wrote a poem about the poppies while he was on the battlefield, I believe.

No they grew on one of the battlefields after the war and they became known as a symbol of remembrance because of this, the poem was also created by this
"In the meantime, no one should roam the camp alone. Use the buddy system."
