  Okay, so the 2003 anime is FMA, and the 2008 one is FMA:B.  Both start out quite similar in plot, but the 2003 anime branches quite significantly from the manga's plot.  It's still a really interesting story (and the sequel film to the series, Conqueror of Shamballa, is amazing), which is why I suggest watching both the original and Brotherhood.  Plus the fact that you can never get too much Ed and Al.  Those brothers are fantastic.

  What episode are you on by the way?  Don't wanna spoil anything for ya.  ;)
