Dreams, dreams are untapped and writhing. How much more real are dreams than that paltry existence which we now call reality? How shall we ascend to that which humanity is destined? By mastering the dreamworld of course. That is how, my pupils, that is how.

Jukka the Sling

(Meh. I agree with Matt.

@Izzy: It's KILI, not Fili.)

Can we stay on topic now?

We are. We're discussing Tauriel when she is the subject of this thread.

(...Okay. But seriously, don't you agree that something is kinda off with The Hobbit book?)

No, it isn't as amazing as the LOTR but that was because the Hobbit was a children's book.

(Not just that. What about the silly Elves singing in the trees and the troll's talking purse?)

That's not in the book as far as I know, but it has been a while since I read the Hobbit.

Hmm, interesting...but it was intended to be a children's book, like five-10 possibly...

 I'm not saying it wouldn't be a good idea to remove some things from the Hobbit book; I'm just saying it's not a good idea to add more things to it. They might as well name it something else and say "inspired by the Hobbit."

Disclaimer: I have not read The Hobbit in years, not have I seen any of the movies.

Okay. So, movies tend to stray from the books. I find it annoying sometimes, but it is sometimes necessary. I believe this is one of those cases.

The Hobbit was written years and years ago. Lots of people have read it. Because the book has been around for so long, pretty much anyone who is interested has read it.

Now imagine that the movies kept EXACTLY to the books. For one, there would be less action, so some of the 'I like movies' crowd wouldn't care. That could diminish the number of tickets you sell, or it could drop your reviews a little. Because of that, a higher percentage of the people would be LOTR fans, not just generic moviegoers. And those people have probably read the book. If you know what is going to happen, even a well shot, well written movie is hugely less enjoyable.

So yes, it can be really great to stay faithful to a book in your scriptwriting. But it just is t a great business decision most of the time. You run the risk of alienating part of your audience, boring another segment, et cetera... All to please a certain minority.

Yes, it will make the serious LOTR fans love you. But big companies usually don't value love as much as money, and that love is bought at a cost- a monetary one.

@Rus: Good point.

So... is anyone else gonna caption it?

Ah will.

Tauriel: I will kill you orc! *Pulls out phone* But first let me take a selfie!

Orc: Hehe. *Runs away*

Tauriel: Eh, where's he gone? Aiyo, these kind of things always happen to me! Wahhh!  *Starts crying and Legolas has to comfort her.

Oh, let me adjust that... there... stay still, ah, that's better.
