I'm thrilled to see both that you're in and you don't mind the appropriation. I didn't think you would, but I wasn't 100% sure.

As a note to players, to help y'all get an idea of how the engine works, I'm showing the final die results that determine the outcome of your actions. The displayed numbers are after bonuses or maluses are accounted for.

Does everything we do have to be attempted or can we say *Run across the room and climbs the taller diving board* Or does it have to be *Runs across the room and attempts to climb the taller diving board*??

If we don't have to attempt everything what kind of things are we allowed to do without the GM making the final decision?

The rule I'm going with is that things that require dice rolls are attacks of any kind (whether on people or the environment), and actions that inquire about the environment (like when Sky searched for things on the desk).

Whether something qualifies as an attack against the environment (attempting to change by force some part of it), I'm guessing I'll figure out myself based on how logically difficult it should be. After all, putting out a small fire with a big fire hose is one thing, stopping a big fire with a small fire extinguisher is something else. If Ash had attempted to stop the fire by stomping it out, that probably would have involved a roll.

If it's something trivial, like climbing a ladder or putting a coin in a coke machine, no dice. ;)

I also had an idea to help fix the I have to many items and becomes OP problem. What if the player has to logically come up with a way to carry their things. if they can't they have to leave something behind.

All of these rules sound fair :)

How do y'all like the game so far? I know I'm having fun (more so than I do playing OO sometimes, actually; maybe it's the dice).

I like it! This round will be more difficult than the last one, methinks.

It is awesome.  ;D It was fun being the Overseer last time but playing it is really cool too.  ;D

Remember that if you're eliminated, you can respawn with different items and a different color, so long as there are still spots left in the game.

Update: I think it's fair to warn y'all that repeated attacks (like Soren trying to beat everyone over the head with his shovel last round) will receive maluses for lacking creativity. It's better to try to mix things up a bit, even if that means hitting someone without a weapon, than it is to do the same attack again and again.

2nd post: Uploaded the maps I made for Arena II onto my Photobucket account. After the game is over, I'll probably post them up here. I don't want to do it now, since it might damage y'all's creativity (and since the course the game has taken has already made them inaccurate).

Things are progressing in an interesting fashion. I'll be gone for a few hours, but I might be able to respond to any actions late this evening.

---

Hate triple-posting, but I like commenting on this game and my own posts.

I keep finding myself writing in 2nd person, instead of the customary 3rd person. It's a natural affectation for a text adventure aficionado, but it isn't proper to use it to convey ordinary actions and events. My convention is 3rd person for things that are happening, and 2nd person only for things that are seen from one person's perspective.

OOC: Why did that end so badly? I'm just curious.
Well, when you first dove down and attempted to get the chest, you rolled a 1 ("catastrophic failure"). I could think of two possible catastrophic results; either something would happen to the chest, or to you. Well, anything involving the chest seemed either implausible or too good of a result (considering that the last time somebody got such a low roll, they dropped what they were holding and nearly set themselves on fire), so I figured it'd have to happen to you. Then, it being underwater, the most obvious thing was that you'd start to drown somehow.

That itself wouldn't have been a decisive disaster, but then, when you attempted to swim back up, you rolled a 4, which falls into the "marginal failure" range (if it had been a 6, you would have broke the surface on your own). I considered having Faiy have to roll to save your life, but figured that since your life was already in her hands, she could save you or not as she saw fit. If not, your character might have died, from a very unlucky couple of rolls.

If you're in dangerous terrain, like the pool or the fire, you need to be careful, and try not to do too much -- the trouble began when you started trying to exert strength and move the chest. If you'd swum down and just tried to open it, that probably wouldn't have resulted in a roll (or if it did, the worst thing likely to happen is that it'd be locked).

OOC: Good point...sorry...
Dreams, dreams are untapped and writhing. How much more real are dreams than that paltry existence which we now call reality? How shall we ascend to that which humanity is destined? By mastering the dreamworld of course. That is how, my pupils, that is how.

Faiyloe

OOC: DEL! What happened to that truce! Fire, our lives are at stake... besides I already dived in the pool you can't attack me if I am not there... and that plastic sword probably floats... I doubt you would be able to swim to the bottom of the pool with it in hand... And yes this is not in color on purpose because it is ooc and I am waiting for James so there will be no in character text.

OOC: Color guys, quick before he notices! ;)

OOC: OOCs don't need to be colored I think...
