I read The Bellmaker first.

The very first one, Redwall. My introduction to the Redwall books was actually through the animated series, which I loved to pieces at the time (even if it doesn't hold up particularly well now), so, when I walked into my elementary school library and saw the book sitting on the shelf, I picked it up, and the rest is history.

Well I have this memory of seeing an episode of Redwall when I was really little but that doesn't count because I didn't make the connection until I had read the book and watched the show again after that... I only remembered this one part where the bank voles are making faces at Cluny from the wall top.

So to answer your question Redwall was the first one I read. I am very passionate about reading books in the order that they where published. Not necessarily the order they where numbered. I am proud to say that I read every single Redwall book that way except for two in the middle, I think it was Marl Fox and Pearls of Lutra.

I remember being at a relative's house while they were watching some of the Mattimeo series, and then when I was a little older I remember seeing the animated Redwall and really enjoying it. Our family became friends with another family, and on their towering cedar-and-glass bookcase they had The Legend of Luke. I was curious as to why there was a freaking ship stuck in a rock, as well as the funny-looking people below. They said it was Redwall, and I was surprised that there were more books than just Redwall (I had known Redwall was a book, but never actually read it.) I asked my mom about it and it turns out we had it for years. I had seen them on the shelf, but never recognized what they were. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out there were the next two books also on the shelf.
  Then I went on to read them all in order of publication by hunting them down at the libraries and book stores. Except for Pearls of Lutra and . . . Marlfox.

Anyhow, now I have nearly all the books.

My dad brought me to the bookstore with my siblings when I was in about 5th or 6th grade and he said I had to get a book. I ended up going home with The Long Patrol, Mattimeo, and Martin the Warrior

We decided to read The Long Patrol together, first, but never actually finished it :/ The first Redwall book I actually read beginning-to-end was High Rhulain and it still remains as one of my favorites I never finished The Long Patrol until a few years later after I had read some of the others, but I'd have to say that It's tied for first. I then skipped around in the series a little and started reading it all in order of publication starting at around Mariel of Redwall

I just borrowed The Long Patrol from the library!

I think Redwall was the first one I read. After that, I read them all completely out of order.

Redwall was probably the first one I read and then Mossflower. I followed the order that was in the front of the books for the majority of the time but I think after awhile I started to read whichever one I wanted.

XD You too, I switched them because they didn't have the next one in the library at the time and I was like.... NEED BOOK NOW! XD So I got the next in line which they had.

My first one was (and still is, since I haven't finished it yet): Redwall.

I was 7 when my mother showed me the books at the library; they have their own shelf in the 'Series' section.  They'd been recommended for me by a friend of her's.  I had my first brand-new library card and started with Redwall.  I didn't pay any attention to the order in which they'd been released; I went by characters.  So, after reading Redwall, I read Mattimeo.  It must have been a full year later (I was only allowed to get books from the public library during summer vacation) because I remember reading Mattimeo around a campfire the summer after 2nd grade.  I next read Martin the Warrior, because he'd been mentioned so frequently in the two previous books, and Mattimeo's son is named Martin.  When I was 8 I got Taggerung for Christmas, and read that 4th; it's so worn and used now.  They were all out of order until Loamhedge; every book after that I read in the order of its release.  I received for Christmas a signed copy of Loamhedge not long after its release but waited to read it until I'd read all of the earlier books.  Now I own most of the series; I buy them gently used online so I have copies of my own.
