Gagging imbeciles is a noble pursuit.

Mallek's not from a book, he's from the video game series(?) Hiveswap, though so far he has only appeared in the spin-off game Hiveswap Friendship Simulator.
Hiveswap is a game about a girl named Joey Claire, who is attacked by monsters in her own home. In her attempt to flee, she accidentally activates a mysterious portal that transports her to the world of Alternia, where she discovers the alien race of trolls. It also swaps her with a guy called Dammek, who gets sent to Earth, but we won't meet him for like another three years or something (his quest will probably be to unravel the monster conspiracy, along with Joey's brother, Jude). Joey now has to navigate life on an alien world, where aliens have kill-on-sight status, with the help of a friendly troll boy.
Friendsim is about you, the nameless main character, who crash lands on Alternia with few clear memories, and a thirst for FRIENDSHIP. You then set out to befriend every troll you can. Along the way, it is slowly revealed that there may be much more to this game than the premise suggests. It's a very simplistic visual novel type game, so the great strength has to be in the incredible character work. There are loads of really great characters, but Mallek is my favourite.

I couldn't find a way to work it into the synopsis, but Hiveswap is also seemingly trying to tell some very deep, dark stories about abuse.

Hiveswap is a spin-off of the webcomic Homestuck.

"Understood." Will looked at Nico. "Will you be my buddy?"
"You're a dork," Nico announced.

alien race of trolls.
Sounds like Long Earth. Although technically in Long Earth trolls aren't aliens, since they come from parallel earths, and many of them were on the Datum Earth (our Earth) at some point.

If you wait till you think you're ready, you're really good at procrastinating.

I'm running out of things to say about yours that nobody has said.

'To eat or not to eat' might be the question, but the answer is 42.

You could try adapting my sayings.

Ducks are bloodthirsty little beasts, unless you're a mouse. Then ducks are bloodthirsty big beasts.

One may be deceit. Two may be conspiracy. Three is the number I trust. Unless they're ducks. Never trust a duck.

Yes, unless there are seven ducks. In such a case, seven is a very dangerous number.

Why would an omelette be eating? I hope you don't have an omelette eating eggs. Then it would be a cannibal omelette.

Omelette is the name of the play that quote comes from.

Why is a New Zealander talking about an American TV show which did a parody of a play written in around 1600 by an English playwright that's set in Denmark, to somebody who's 1/4 Irish and 3/4 English?
