Welcome to the Grammar Patrol. We are committed to promoting and protecting the correct use of the English language. This includes not only grammar, but also diction, sentence structure, and anything else that may come to mind.

Feel free to discuss debatable grammar rules, learn new vocabulary (preferably of the SAT variant), ask questions regarding our language, bring up meaningful topics, and enjoy these alphabet cookies provided free of charge. And do not hesitate to correct anyone who (deliberately or inadvertently) misuses English. That's what Grammar Nazis are for! Just remember to be tactful.

*Violators will not be tolerated*

Hello! *Grabs an M shaped cookie* Oooh, good cookies Skye.

So, what shall we talk about first? The hated fragmented sentences? (My enemy; just ask Word!) Or SAT vocab words?

Okay, as soon as I saw your (Skye's) above post I thought of talking about dialogue tags.  A lot of people seem to get those wrong.

For example, they might say in a story, "Look at that." He said.

This is incorrect.  It should be, "Look at that," he said.  See?  A comma and no capitalization of 'he', because it's all one sentence.

So, yeah.

Good point! I've been trying to work on that, although I have to say I still forget half the time. :P

I would like to apply for the position of Captain of the Guard, please. Grammar must be enforced.

 Can we devise a special kind of torture for people who misuse "it's"?

Thanks, Corny! ;) We can discuss whatever you all wish, as long as it has some relevance to the English language! ;D

"Get him! Grab that spy! I want his head!"
Basil chuckled. "What's the matter? Isn't your own head good enough? No, I don't suppose it is. Ugly-looking brute, aren't you?" -Basil to Cluny the Scourge (Redwall)

"The second you change "I can't" into "why not", you can do anything in the world."

*Flips through book* Hmm, it appears that the word "roooood" is not in the dictionary. You may want to brush up on your vocabulary.

@Wot: Of course!

Awesome :D thank you Sky!

*hands James his very own, brand-new dictionary* :D
