Our reporter Jukka (the Sling) has gotten an exclusive interview with RAFF Awards competitor Soren! Let's take a look.

Behind the Scenes with Soren
By Jukka the Sling

Many of you know about the Redwall Abbey Fan Fiction Awards, which are one of the biggest events to ever hit the forum!  I got up close and personal with one of the contestants, Soren the Warrior, whose fanfic Nyroc Brushdale: Journey to Genesis has garnered many favorable reviews since its original posting on June 9.

I entered Soren's Cellars mansion and sat down on a comfortable chair across from him.  Around the room were Secret Forum Crush memorabilia and assorted photographs of a pretty girl with dark hair.

"Hello," I said.  "I'm a reporter for the FNN and have the task of inteviewing a random contestant of the fanfiction contest. I have a few questions for you."

Soren nodded, leaning back in his chair and putting his fingers together in a pyramid.

I began.  "What was your inspiration for your Nyroc Brushdale fanfic?"

"My inspiration really was to not leave my character without a real history. I made him for the Genesis [RP], and I wanted to give him a life story that has everything (troubles, love and loss (just keep reading the updates to the fic, it'll get there))."

"What keeps you writing?"  I inquired.

"Again, I've been writing because I want this story I've made of my character to be completed," Soren replied.

"Have you encountered writer's block with the fanfic you entered, and if so, how did you overcome it?"

"No, not writers block. Mostly just a lack of motivation to write, because usually I'm pretty busy."

"How long did you work on your fic before you posted it?"

"About a week, on and off," he replied.

"How many chapters do you expect your fic to have?"

"Chapters? Well, counting how much I've written so far, 3-4. It won't be too long."

"Do you have a friend or family member read each segment before you post, or do you just post it?"

"No, I just go ahead and post it. Maybe that's why its low in views."  He winked.

"No, I'm sure that's not it," I said.  I got up and shook his hand.  "Anyway, thanks for the interview!"

Welcome back to today's edition of FNN! This time, we'll be discussing a serious problem -- Guests.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Over the past two month there has been an alarming increase in guest activity with a count of 129 reported guest sightings since June 1st, and a record of 76 guests online at one time. 4 were even spotted attempting to post and one was reported to have been seen collapsing a category. During this time it was reported that 7 of them had deserted and joined the members. But have they really changed sides, or did they only join to infiltrate our ranks?

Another occurrence on June 6th brought reason for alarm to many among the loyal ranks of the members. 54 guests were spotted viewing Jet's profile within a 7 minute time period, 42 of those views occurring within the first three minutes. Ever since then we have seen Guests viewing Jet's profile more often and in greater numbers than everyone else. Are they just gathering intelligence or are they planning on recruiting one of the Forums most powerful members. Jet has stated several times that he considers himself neutral in this conflict, however despite his claims he has voiced his opinion that the guests are innocent and he condones their actions.

In response to these dire circumstances the forum has taken some much needed precautions to stay this ever growing guest threat. Such as making the Secret Hideouts a secret board, and setting traps for the guest scouts like The Lost Woods topic. Organizations such as the FIA and the Forum Police department are investigating the threat and Faiy has been getting the members in shape, training them for the inevitable battle.

Be warned, their forces seem to do much of their scouting in pairs, especially when infiltrating some of our Forums most sensitive topics. If you see two guests at once it is strongly advised you arm yourself and get backup at once. It is of the utmost importance they they are exterminated immediately before they can return and report to their superiors. If this can not be done then you must force them to retreat before they can gather more data. War is coming, there is nothing we can do to stop that, the only question is will we wait for the guests to make their move or will we strike first.

Hello, and greetings from Sage Tip, you FNN newscaster! Today we have special inside information about RAFFA, from Captain Tammo himself!

As most of you probably already know, an annual fanfiction contest is being held by Captain Tammo. I interviewed Tammo on his contest (the Redwall Abbey Forum Fanfiction Awards or RAFF), he says he got the idea when he"...was on the forum for a little bit, just looking about and checking up on the Fan Fiction Boards. I had noticed that that area of the forum had become fairly dry in terms of activity. There was the occasional new Fanfic, sometimes a competition, but for the most part, it seemed to me that the Fan Fiction Boards had turned into this sort of "old desert town" with no traffic coming in and out anymore. For a long time, I didn't bother giving an effort to change that, just watched." He goes on to say that while on a visit to Cavern Hole he saw Wylder's Fan Works Revival Movement. "It was so exciting to see people coming together for the Fan Fiction Community. The idea for the competition was something that just popped into my head the moment I started reading the thread!"

When asked how many entries he expected, he answers, "When I initially put the idea for the RAFF Awards together, I was expecting more than the average Fanfic contest gets (which tends to be around 3-5), ultimately shooting for around 10 entries in all. But to have over twenty individual Fan Fictions in the competition?! It's fantastic! A personal goal of mine is to reach a total of 30 entries, so I guess we'll see how things develop over time. There's still a lot of time before July 20th, and since people can enter or nominate as many works as they'd like, 30 doesn't seem to be too far-fetched anymore.

Well, it seems very likely he will reach that goal as there are now 25 entries.

When I asked for advice for other writers, he said, "Make sure that you have fun with your story and never let it turn into a chore to write. If you don't like everything about your story, your audience will probably catch on to that and feel the same.

Getting a buddy to work as a mentor with you is also extremely beneficial! I've both mentored and been mentored by various members on the forum and it's always a bunch of fun and really helpful!"
