Eulaliaaa!

What? They're randomized?..... Oh, I didn't know  :D

And a Viligante sounds like Mafia to me...

@Rrrr: what's the  :-\ for?
Just pretend there is something interesting and unique written here... I have nothing to say.

Skyblade

Yeah, they're randomized :)

No, the Vigilante is a good guy. He has the freedom to shoot whoever he believes is the Mafia. Of course, it's  hard role to play correctly.

Well, not when I'm Narrator  ;D (partly because I don't have a randomizer thing and partly because I think it'd be a fun twist).

Also, I think I might use Viligante in the next round if I'm Narrator. Though, I'd need to know how to describe the role.

Vigilante. Like Batman or Daredevil. Someone who hunts down and kills the bad guys without the sanction of the government.

My favourite role in the regular version of Mafia is Milkman; this role serves only to deliver milk to someone each night, and it can even be delivered to a dead person's grave.  My favourite roles from the advanced version of Mafia (many players) are Jailor (gets to question one person each night - in that night, the person being held cannot complete their usual business, and if the Jailor finds them suspicious, he may execute them, but if he executes a townsperson, he too dies), Escort (distracts one person each night from completing their business), and Executioner (tries to get a predetermined person killed by the town - if that person is killed at night, the Exe becomes a Jester and tries to get himself lynched; if he succeeds, he wins, but if he is killed at night, he loses).

I enjoy the enforcement of the rule that the Doctor can only save himself a limited number of times (usually 3).  That way he is encouraged/forced to analyze the direction of the game and work to save members instead of taking the easy road and saving his own neck repeatedly, which is only a smart move when it's necessary.

The roles in Mafia are not determined by the Narrator, they're determined by a pack of playing cards.  Mafia is a card game.  The role of each player is randomly assigned, but if done well, I suppose the Narrator could choose who fills which role; I would just prefer not to know, because it might then be easier to figure out who is playing as whom.

I'm not the ideal Mafia player; even as a townsperson, I always want the Mafia to win.  I like the idea of overcoming the odds and emerging victorious despite the numbers against them.  Plus I just enjoy them, whether I am one of them or not.

Mafia may have started as a card game, but it's since become an internet craze. You can probably find a game of Mafia on every forum you find. I personally have never played the card game.

There are randomizers online. But it's your call ;) I think it would be interesting.

Well, I would describe it like this: The Vigilante is a Citizen who has the option to kill one person at Night. He doesn't have to kill someone every Night. The Vigilante is aligned with the Town and his goal is to kill the Mafia members.

I have played Face to Face Mafia in a bus ride (that's how I discovered the game!).

I think I'll keep it a secret whether I randomize the roles or not, just so you guys don't know  ;D

Skyblade

Do most of you not have favorite roles?

I can't wait to play Round 3. In fact, could we start before Round 2.5 finishes? Or is that too much?

Thanks, MatthiasMan, for the avatar!

James Gryphon

A round 2.75?  ;)

I saw a few larger games that had the Vigilante. That, the Detective and Doc were the only town roles that got played much. Anything else, I think, was a one-off.

Skyblade

Sure.

What's a one-off?

I guess people don't want to give me advice :P

Oo, found this!
I think my favorite role would be something like a Doctor. Getting to chose who to save, is fun.

My favorite role is jester- it's fun to try to roleplay that just right. Make yourself suspicious, you win- but make yourself too suspicious, and you lose.

Also, have you guys ever played gang war mafia? It's when the mafia are in teams and don't know who the other mafia are. So, mafia 1 and 2 know who each other are, and choose together, and mafia 3 and 4 know each other, and choose together, but neither group knows the other. Then they have to eliminate both the town and the opposing mafia. You can only play it with large groups, but it sure makes things more interesting.

As a sidenote, I've played plenty of mafia games, but I've never been other than a townsperson, and I've also never been voted out.

Jesters are actually my worst pet peeve in Mafia because they make me even more edgy!

And I know what you're talking about, but I've never played one of those type of games before. Sounds difficult.
