Ehhh. . . Explosions are much more effective when the compression has nowhere to go. When mining using explosives, they drill a hole deep into the rock and put the charge in, blasting the material outwards. Explosions in air are much less damaging since air can compress, and if an explosive were placed on a hard surface like a rock, it does little damage to it.
You would need some sort of shrapnel or projectile.

Last time I fought in the hunger games everyone ganged up on me and I was the first to die. It does make me feel a little better that I was seen as such a huge threat that it made the biggest alliance ever seen.
