Can we just take a moment and discuss how odd the word "soccer" is? Why does it have two Cs? When you kick a soccer ball, are you soccing it? Did this predict using two Cs in place of CK on the internet? Did this originate the phrase "Sock it to me!"? If so, why does the phrase use CK instead of CC?

On that subject, why do you call an American football a football when you don't kick it?

'Soccer' is short for 'association'. What we call football and you call soccer was 'association football'.
