Welcome one and all! Old friends and new! Welcome to the feast!

With the 30th anniversary of Redwall upon us, let us take this time to reflect upon the series as a whole and what it means to us. Despite or old forum disappearing, we're still here to celebrate our favorite series with all our friends. It's also the time of harvest, so this feast is twice as important. Dig in to the wonderful 'food' the friar has prepared and let's party!

The Skarzs

Hurrah for thirty years of one of the best book series in the world! Hurrah for decades to come!

Ah, Redwall. The series that I read while randomly sick one day after my neighbor just thought I would enjoy it for a bit. How much it has helped me grow into the writer and person I am become, with teaching me lessons on friendship, courage, family, and love. Plus it led me to this forum, which has seen me grown from a little kid with dumb ideas to a much more mature teen with a settled book and stories. So, it just seems fitting that today on its 30th Anniversary that I am sick once again and in need of something to read. And it seems, I might just wipe the dust off of my old copy of Redwall and dig into once more. So, as Skarzs put it, Hurrah for thirty years!
I want the world of Tolkien,
The message of Lewis;
The adventure of Jacques,
And the heart of Milne.
But I want the originality of me.

30 years already. . . . Wow.

When you think about it, that's a long time for a series to be as popular as it is today. LONG LIVE THE THE REDWALL!

Jukka the Sling

Redwall forever!  It's amazing how it's stood the test of time.

I should reread some of the books again...
"The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater." ~J.R.R. Tolkien

To 30 years of Redwall.

Oftentimes, you read a book, acknowledge that it was a good, and perhaps even obsess about it for a short while. Yet usually, the book is set down, the message forgotten, and life moves on.

Occasionally, however, a book comes along with such power that after reading it you are never the same again. You may read this book only once, or a hundred times, but it has an impact on your character that cannot be measured in stars or points. Redwall is one of these for me.

I do not remember when I first read this series, but it was when I was very young. It has, in a very intimate way, become a part of who I am. I have grown up along with it, and as my mind has expanded so has my love for the series. This world is a complicated place. There are a multitude of choices and beliefs, careers and characters which we face. It is easy to become confused, lost, or despondent. Redwall serves as a reminder that many of the material choices we make in life are not relevant. It is an idealized world, such is very true- but an idealized world reminds us of what this very imperfect world could and should be. We may not be mice with swords, but the Idea of Redwall- the idea of courage and sacrifice and companionship- is even more applicable to our world than to theirs.

Aside from the moral message of Redwall, it is a masterpiece of storytelling. Telling a story is different from writing, and Brian was master of the trade. His poetic language is rarely matched by any other author, so much that it makes reading his writing a pleasure in and of itself, apart from plot and characters. This is an old-fashioned style in a modern world, and it has inspired me and others to a higher style of writing.

And aside from anything about the series itself, it has brought us all together here.

Long live Redwall! May Brian Jacques, who we are all indebted to, never have his memory dimmed by time.

"'Tis the business of small minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death."
-Thomas Paine

"Integrity and firmness is all I can promise; these, be the voyage long or short, shall never forsake me although I may be deserted by all men."
-George Washington

Courage: Not only the willingness to die manfully, but also the determination to live decently.

Skyblade

One never knows the impact of his or her actions - whether good or bad. As @LT Sandpaw once said, "Never assume to know how something affected someone." Each move is a rock thrown into a pond with ripples that can't be foreseen or controlled.

Brian Jacques couldn't have predicted the long-reaching affects of that first novel he shared with others. Every heart inspired, every hour enjoyed flipping through pages, and all the memories and friendships made in this forum can be traced to the events of 30 years ago. Just imagine if Brian Jacques had decided not to write for some reason. What an alternate universe we would live in.

Really makes one think. Happy 30th Anniversary.

DOCTOR: How is that news to anyone?

"I am Yomin Carr, the harbinger of doom. I am the beginning of the end of your people!" -Yomin Carr

-Sometime later, the second mate was unexpectedly rescued by the subplot, which had been trailing a bit behind the boat (and the plot). The whole story moved along.
