I was wondering what the lands from which Cluny the scourge originated from? are their more main lands and is there a land like china. ???
Hello!
There are definitely other lands out there! If the land of Redwall is meant to be within a Britain-like country, then there will be a version of the Americas, Asia and so on, as well. So a China of sorts will be about!
Aye, an' ah cannae vait tae explore it! AV ABOARD!!!
*hops aboard* :)
I never thought Redwall was supposed to be equivalent to the real world. I always thought of it as an entirely different place, with completely different geography. However, that is just my opinion.
Did it say Cluny was a Porcanese (spelling?) rat? Or have I got that wrong?
Portuguese?

I wonder where Mariel and Dandin sailed off to - maybe reached the equivalent of Ireland, or beyond?

He's obviously a Redwall Rat, wot wot! ;)
Sorry for double post, but I heard it from the mouth of Brian himself, that Cluny is a bilge rat.
Well, that's controdicting the book. Look it up yourself, it said he's a Portuguese rat.
I think that the belief in foreign lands in the world of Redwall is something for the reader to decide. If you use your imagination, you can head over to that world and see for yourself.

Oh, and Redwaller?? maybe he's a Portuguese bilge rat!!!! he can be both, RIGHT??? (you are supposed to right!!)
Actually, there's no such thing as a "portuguese bilge rat". And I take my information from a highly plausible place: A Brian Jacques Interview!

Were did you see (or hear, or read...) the interview?

If BJ said it was, it was.
First, I don't believe any of us has read Redwall in a while, so we can't be sure.
Second, it could have been a writing accident.

That can be considered, though I do sort of remember something about a bilge-rat in
Redwall.

Clunky was a bilge rat; the biggest, most savage rodent that ever jumped from ship to shore. Ect,...

Well, that does clear up a few things...
Oooh! So people thought he was a portuguese rat! But he is indeed a bilge rat!
Thanks Shadefur!
You're welcome! :)
Hmm, I'll have to check up on this, can't really trust these new Shades nowadays... ;)
::)
I made a Japan/China equivalent and an India equivalent, they're called Hakaan and Abada
Ok, we've gone really far off topic. :D

No actually we haven't. The topic was "Far off lands" that's what everyone has be talking about or at least the denizens thereof (i.e Cluny)
So since this is Far Off Lands, was Riftgard a island or Land??
What?

Riftgard was a fortress on an unnamed island

Of course he can be both!...right? I mean, the term bilge is referring to a ship, so that ship could be from Portugal.
And we also have to keep in mind that the text specifically says
"some said", it sounds like a rumor to me. I'm ready to believe it, but still.
My friend has seen rats as big as cats where we live. . . not sure what kind they are.
All the far off lands only seem to be necessary to the specific book they are in. Because of how far away they are, it comes to reason that they wouldn't be the first thing to come to mind if Mossflower is in danger, thus making it unnecessary to be mentioned again in major storylines.
So... Cluny is Portugese? (Sorry if I spelled it wrong)

Well, it says at one point that some speculated he was from there. But that was the first book, and Jacques didn't expect to write an entire series. Later books show that the series doesn't take place in the real world.
I don't think Redwall stories take place anywhere legitimate, I suppose the land is made like Britain but it's probably not exactly Britain.
So correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Britain has any deserts.
There are no true deserts anywhere in Europe, and definitely none of the Sahara-like scale that is depicted past the great cliffs.
That's what I thought.

These rats are called Nutria they are massive, I believe Brian may have mentioned them in the book Mossflower, they are bigger then most cats, I have seen them and they are incredible fast in water. I don't think Cluny is a Nutria, besides they are very friendly and you can usually hand feed them, if you got the guts to get near one ;D

C an I suggest the far off lands in Legend of Luke!!! ;D
Rephrase, please? :P
Well, sampetra was far off...
The volcanic islands that Luke visited in pursuit of Vilu Daskar !
Yeha, all those islands would kind of count.
