Chapter 2; paragraph 4-5

Some said that Cluny was a Portugese rat. Others said he came from the jungles far across the wide oceans. Nobody knew for sure.
Clunky was a bilge rat; the biggest, most savage rodent that ever jumped from ship to shore. Ect,...
That second paragraph reads "Clunky".  ;D

Ok, we've gone really far off topic.  :D
No actually we haven't. The topic was "Far off lands" that's what everyone has be talking about or at least the denizens thereof (i.e Cluny)

So since this is Far Off Lands, was Riftgard a island or Land??
I want the world of Tolkien,
The message of Lewis;
The adventure of Jacques,
And the heart of Milne.
But I want the originality of me.

Riftgard was a fortress on an unnamed island

Did it say Cluny was a Porcanese (spelling?) rat? Or have I got that wrong?
i THINK so, not sure!! haven't read that one in a while!!
Oh, and Redwaller?? maybe he's a Portuguese bilge rat!!!! he can be both, RIGHT??? (you are supposed to right!!)
Of course he can be both!...right? I mean, the term bilge is referring to a ship, so that ship could be from Portugal.
And we also have to keep in mind that the text specifically says "some said", it sounds like a rumor to me. I'm ready to believe it, but still.
Warriors brave, who gave all you could give,
Offered your lives so that others would live,
No one can tell what my heart longed to say
When I had to leave here, and you had to stay.

My friend has seen rats as big as cats where we live. . . not sure what kind they are.

All the far off lands only seem to be necessary to the specific book they are in. Because of how far away they are, it comes to reason that they wouldn't be the first thing to come to mind if Mossflower is in danger, thus making it unnecessary to be mentioned again in major storylines.

Well, it says at one point that some speculated he was from there. But that was the first book, and Jacques didn't expect to write an entire series. Later books show that the series doesn't take place in the real world.
"The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater." ~J.R.R. Tolkien

I don't think Redwall stories take place anywhere legitimate, I suppose the land is made like Britain but it's probably not exactly Britain.
So correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Britain has any deserts.

There are no true deserts anywhere in Europe, and definitely none of the Sahara-like scale that is depicted past the great cliffs.

I remember, it was a Portuguese rat.

I thought it said bilge rat. He was certainly bigger than the others.
