I would definitely recommend Welkin Weasels. I've only read the first three, but they're amazing, trust me. The Foxes of Firstdark (or Hunter's Moon if you live in the UK) might be a little mature, depending on the person, but it's still great - easily one of my favorites.

I'm reading through the first book now.  Its a little strange but so far I'm having a good time with it. :)  Prince Poynt is funny, you got to admit when the weasels are used for the bowling pins and they all whisper "all fall down" on a bad shot you can't help but laugh.  What an ego the guy has.

Just finished the first book.  It was a very unusual read, when you try to compare it to similar fantasy novels (Redwall, Mistmantle, etc.).  I did like it but the constant fantasy turns (magic, gryphons, live statues) makes it hard to just stand still it seems.  I almost think the book is on ADHD at certain points.

I agree; the books do get pretty...whimsical at times.  ;)

Was anyone as big a fan of Sheriff Falshed as I was? Him and Mawk were my favorite characters (in the first trilogy).

Post by: Lutra on November 16, 2012, 11:29:02 PM
I only intend to read the first three books.  From what I can tell, the second three sound like stories about characters, not necessarily part of the storyline.  Kind of like how Ga'Hoole had those three books in the middle that told about the story of Hoole--I skipped those entirely and just wanted to read the storyline.

Lutra,i think you should give the second trilogy a go.i love the way its based around sherlock holmes and how it is set in victorian muggidrear(london)its alot more funny than the first three and has heaps of action!

And redwall fan sorry but the moles dont have the same accents.i think if they did it would be like garry was just copying brian.
Title: Re: welkin weasles

No visible accents like Redwall where its definitely species specific.  Everyone appears to talk the same, save for the statues.

Wodehed.

Bryony bludd from the second trilogy reminds me slightly of mariel.she is able to take care of herself, smart and usualy more eager to fight sveltlana than sylver.sylver was kind of a pushover when it came to her.

Right now I'm still reading the first triology.  Just about anything Scirf says can be considered a memorable quote.  One that comes off the top of my head: "Dried fish? I'd rather eat Mawk."  Mawk gets good lines too.

I like this one from vampire voles when spindrick pranked the bank badger saying a shunken head he had given to the actress was the bank badgers granddads.
'have you no heart?'
'she has a heart,'said spindrick,'and also your granddaddys head'.

Don't feel bad....when I was in my teenage years, I could definitely be called a Mawk-the-doubter.  You eventually grow out of it as you gain confidence and get older and have new experiences to end those worries.

whats the story?
whos the bad guys?
Who are you going to play?
Title: Re: welkin weasles
Post by: Lutra on November 24, 2012, 11:48:11 PM
I've only read the original triology, not the second one.  Right now I don't intend to read the second one, so if I'm going to participate, I'm familiar with the original island of Welkin.

Story....they always seem to have trouble with rats or forest spirits....maybe that should be a plot line?  A mercenary pirate along the shores?

Bad guys.....Poynt is an obvious choice...Falshed maybe....

Who would I play...dunno....that naive otter, Sleek made me chuckle how clueless and gushy he is.  I think I'd need to play a weasel though.  Mawk maybe....I could ham him up well. :)

Just about any moment with Falshed in it would be my favorite...like when he gets struck by lightning in Windjammer Run and feels empowered by it, or when he sings in the underground tunnel, and of course all his dire threats he made that were never carried out. I just can't help but love anthromorphic villains. :)

That is really good Phoenix!!!!
I have some Qs.

What are the 'welkin weasels?'  (i know they're weasels)
Why are they seperated by victorian style and then the other one with pretty much the same charecters?
And where can I find these books besides amazon? ;D

All in all could you give a overview about the story, without spilling any major beans? :D

Did you mean the characters in the first book are the ancestors of the second?

And how does welkin weasels school work?

No, the characters in the second book are descendants of the characters from the first.  Also, to add on, Welkin is an island.

Hey, phoenix, have you read The Silver Claw by the author of Welkin Weasels? It's a lot the same as WW, but without weasels. ;)
