I've meant do do this every year since I was in high school, but I never finished anything. I'm thinking of giving it a go this time, though!

You can sign up at the website. It's free, and even if you do sign up there's no pressure to do anything. If you like writing you should give it a go. I've heard it can be a lot of fun, if somewhat stressful.
Okay, and do you email them your story or something?
It's not really a competition, as such. You "win" if you complete your novel (write 50000 words) in the month of November. You can uoload your novel using one of their word counting widgets at the end of the month. There's a lot more information on the website. You end up having to write about 2000ish words a day.

I see. Maybe I'll wait till I'm a bit better at writing before I do it.

NaNo starts today! Who else is going to be writing like a crazy person for the next month?

*raises hand* I plan on starting the next book in my series that I haven't finished the first book of yet. D'oh well, each book is stand-alone.

I didn't come up with a creative idea for a novel in time, so I'm going to sit this one out.  :( But, I'll be here if you need any support! :D

Four days in! How is everyone going? I have 7054 words, which is crazy. I don't think I've ever written this much in my life.

I just had to revive this topic to show you guys... THIS!

Yay, congratulations Lily! :) And congrats to everyone else who participated, even if you didn't make it to 50 000 words. :)

CONGRATS!

Wooow. My friend and I are planning on maybe trying to team up and do this together next year. Mostly because we're both super excited we've actually done some writing today? But I doubt we'll be ready by next year, knowing us. Maybe, though? If I've made the mental progress to actually write something instead of running back and forth from idea to idea...

Like...actually starting to write a story is a big deal to me. I always have a million ideas, in various stages of planning/outline? With well-developed elements maybe, but no beginning. The only thing I've written in a long time is that one-shot fanfic I posted here, Blackness. Which I finished from the first idea forming to completion in two days, which is probably why I could do it? It was short and I didn't have time to get distracted by another idea.

But right now...I've just begun my first multi-chapter fanfic! I've stayed excited about this idea for quite a while, wrote a full outline, have the whole story in my mind, and have made good progress on the first chapter, so I'm ECSTATIC. Hopefully I'll have the first chapter posted in a couple days! If I can finish this story, that's a BIG step in preparing to write the novel I've been planning for so long...
