I found myself skimming alot as I read it, not bothering to keep up with who was saying and doing what all of the time, and I stopped reading when I got to the last few chapters, which has never happened to me with a Redwall book before. I thought the characters were all jerks.
What about the rest of you?

Dreams, dreams are untapped and writhing. How much more real are dreams than that paltry existence which we now call reality? How shall we ascend to that which humanity is destined? By mastering the dreamworld of course. That is how, my pupils, that is how.

The Grey Coincidence

Profile by the wonderful Vizon.

Also, behold this shiny medal! How I got it is a secret...

Also, also, I am running fanfic conteeeeeests!

Ashleg

Not missing out on much.

If you like bird villains, I highly recommend just reading Mattimeo.

belle

Yes, the bird enemy theme in Mattimeo was great. In Doomwyte it just seemed rehashed.

I feel like it was written a little more simplistically than a lot of the other books and was a little boring. I do remember that the first time I read it I skipped a lot because it just took a while to get to the action and resolution.

Also, did anyone else notice that the father of all the "Gonfelins" practiced polygamy? In a KID'S book?

The Skarzs

So did people like Abraham in the Bible. :P

I actually kind of appreciated the Gonfelins and their positive portrayal of a polygamous relationship. That's not my thing personally, but I also firmly believe that there's nothing wrong with polygamy/polyamory as long as everyone involved is cool with it, and there's certainly nothing wrong with educating children on the mere existence of other types of relationships. If the kids reading are mature enough to handle the themes of violence, slavery, and torture that show up in these books, then I'm sure a dude with multiple wives shouldn't be that mind-blowing.

Otherwise, I would peg Doomwyte as one of the average Redwall books. It's certainly not terrible or boring, and it's got some entertaining parts, but it's also not really anything special. It also does rehash the Pearls of Lutra macguffin hunt plot, which is kind of lame.

Ashleg

That really overweight tree rat with an egg obsession from one of the older books also had multiple wives.

MossflowerLover

-I would actually have to agree with you. I feel like it was written in a very simplistic way. I couldn't follow along as well as I did with the others in the series.

Nadaz, voice of the host

It was one of the better books after they started to get worse around or just after Taggerung.
It matters not what you fight, but what you fight for.

MeadowR

I quite enjoyed it when I read it. It was the first new Redwall I had read for quite a few years, at the time. I will be getting to re-reading it shortly, so will be interesting to see if my thoughts have changed since my re-read of the preceding books.

Season Namer 2014

The Skarzs

There was something that was different from the other books: the almost unnecessary deaths of some moles. Regardless of the situation that put them there, it was tragic because (I think) it could have been avoided.
