Hmmm... Be captured by pawns, knights, bishops, rooks, the queen or the king, maybe?

A chess set with Redwall animals, what would there be? Maybe have woodlanders as one side and vermin as the other.

Nah, they got captured by a taniwha. I noticed my older sister running off with a few pawns so it must've been her.

I'm not a huge fan of that term. Maybe you could use monstrous instead? (And no, actually, Lass is a shapeshifter and Moa is formless, most of the time)
