-Sometime later, the second mate was unexpectedly rescued by the subplot, which had been trailing a bit behind the boat (and the plot). The whole story moved along.

 Same here.  It kinda depends upon what I'm wearing.  If I wear grey, my eyes tend to be more pale (though sometimes they really pop out when I wear grey :P), and when I wear blue, WOW!  Blue!  Though usually my eyes are a rather pale blue.
