so who do you think is the smartest of the vermin?
quite frankly despite hes rather menial part in taggerung i think it would be Ruggan Bor.
reason: if you remember no weird visions, no rage fits, dynamic leadership, and he obviously knows the matching of combat... not stupid or arrogant enough to challenge Lord Russano.
any other takers?

W0NWILL

I agree with you, but I think that all vermin who desert add a point or two to their intelligence scale if they do it without being caught.

He was smart... But at the moment, I'd have to say either Ferhago the Assasin, or Mokkan the Marlfox. They were both very stategic and smart.

Vermin may be cunning for a while, but I think the Redwallers are smarter, no offense.

What is there to be offended by? I think that most of us would agree! (Like me)

+1 for Ruggan Bor - he knew it was pointless and just backed off at the end.

Plugg Firetail was no fool.  Mokkan was also pretty sly.  Also Rasconza, Feragho, Vilu Daskar...  Cluny was very clever before he started to lose it.

the point is most of them were clever until they lost it... sawney rath, ungutt trunn, cluny, etc...

Skipper

I think Slagar was clever, but the only reason he lost was because the good creatures were being helped for most of the journey.

Lutra

Ruggan Bor never lost it though. ;)

Fun. is a fantastic band.

AbbotAlf0805

I think Cluny. He was the only succesful one to take Redwall.
I will lead Redwall Abbey to a golden age of peace through the power of Jesus Christ.

Capn Greypatch

Let's not forget Greypatch!! He was Gabool's sidekick, and yet he pleased his king and ended up surviving and escaping after Gabool had gone 'insane'...then he used his cunning and used such tactics as the fire twirler things, and nearly captured the Abbey...maybe not the smartest, but I'd say he was definitely an intelligent rat - and  a good swordfighter.

Ferhago the Assassin was also fairly smart (any good assassin should be), using his good looks to his advantage...

What do you guys think about Ungatt Trunn? I mean, he had a hell of a lot vermin at his command, which has to take charisma and smarts to command all of them...

Or what about Vilaya?

Flandor

Greypatch was definitely a cut above the average.  I thought Flinky was incredibly clever too.  I'd say Vilaya was definitely smart; she never even got her paws dirty, she got her henchmen to do everything.

I'd say that's because she was a scary Sable with an adder poisin dagger.
Flinky was the best vermin of them all!
