Basically, what happened was that on Valentine's Day 2009 Dan and Phil decided to make a prank video which had Phil confessing his love for Dan in a private video which they were going to "accidentally" unprivate on April Fools Day the same year. However, they decided the prank was too mean and didn't release it. Youtube accidentally unprivated the video in 2012 which led to a lot of fans asking about it which led to Dan getting really angry at basically everything, especially Phil. Videos from 2012 which feature both of them show them noticeably less close than every other year.

That's the official version, though there is of course much speculation on whether or not this was actually supposed to be an April Fools prank or not.

I see a ton of references to Dan and Phil on Instagram because of my constant liking of My Chemical Romance, Panic! At the Disco and Fall Out Boy. Apparently I should also love twenty one pilots.
