"The Elite do the real brainwashing - convincing people it's a free market where everyone can suceed if they work hard enough, when in reality it's all controlled  to keep the wealth in the hands of a select few." - Deus Ex.

Too true.

Delthion

Not always... John D. Rockefeller was the wealthiest man of his time, but he still gave large amounts to charities. I'm not saying this is always the case. What I'm saying is that it's not the rich, it's certain people that are powerful enough to make it happen, not just the rich.
Dreams, dreams are untapped and writhing. How much more real are dreams than that paltry existence which we now call reality? How shall we ascend to that which humanity is destined? By mastering the dreamworld of course. That is how, my pupils, that is how.

Luftwaffles

Another Deus Ex quote... that game is full of stuff like this:

"Corporations are so big you don't even know who you're working for. That's
terror. Terror built into the system".

"Be the change that you want to see in the world"
~Mahatma Ghandi
"Get him! Grab that spy! I want his head!"
Basil chuckled. "What's the matter? Isn't your own head good enough? No, I don't suppose it is. Ugly-looking brute, aren't you?" -Basil to Cluny the Scourge (Redwall)

"The second you change "I can't" into "why not", you can do anything in the world."

Hickory

"In this hour of victory, we taste only defeat. I ask, why? We are Forerunners, guardians of all that exists. The roots of the galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms... And the impervious shelter beneath which it has prospered. I stand before you, accused of the sin of ensuring Forerunner ascendancy. Of attempting to save us from this fate where we are forced to... recede. Humanity stands as the greatest threat in the galaxy. Refusing to eradicate them is a fool's gambit. We squander eons in the darkness, while they seize our triumphs for their own. The Mantle of responsibility for all things belongs to Forerunners alone. Think of my acts as you will. But do not doubt the reality: the Reclamation... has already begun. And we are hopeless to stop it."
-The Didact
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Skyblade

"Yes, Sky, you suck. I suck. We all suck in our own ways. We are not perfect and we should not try to be, because all we will ever get is frustration and disappointment. Right now, you are in the pit of despair after falling again. It happens to all of us. But do not linger there! Your life is not meant to be miserable. I know it is very tempting and appealing to stay there, in the darkness, but you have to push through. There is a way out of the pit."

"I do not believe in a fate that will fall on us no matter what we do. But I do believe in a fate that will fall on us, if we do nothing."

"Therefor I will work, I will save, I will sacrifice, I will endure. I will fight cheerfully and do my upmost as if the issue to the whole conflict resided on me alone."

"And the enemies of freedom, those who practice terrorism and prey upon their neighbors, they will be reminded that peace is the highest aspiration of the American people. We will negotiate for it, we will sacrifice for it, we will not surrender for it now or ever. Above all we must realize that no arsenal and no weapon in the arsenals of the world is so formable as the will and morale courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in todays world do not have, it is a weapon we as Americans do have."

All above Ronald Regan.

"You and I know that and do not believe that life is so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery."

A powerful quote
Humans are emotional beings, learn to control their emotions and you will control them. Disregard their emotions and they will disregard you, even when logic tells them you are right.

'Democracy? Democracy? Democracy is not what these people need – hell, it's not even what they want. America has been trying to install democracies in nations for a century, and it hasn't worked one time. These countries don't have the most basic building blocks to support a democracy. Little things like we ought to be tolerant of those who disagree with us. We ought to be tolerant of those who worship a different god than us. That a journalist ought to be able to disagree with the President! And you think you could just march into countries based on some fundamentalist religious principles, drop a few bombs, topple a dictator, and start a democracy?! Give me a break. People don't want freedom. They want boundaries, rules. Protection. From invaders and from themselves. People need a leader who could give them both the support and the constraints to keep chaos at bay. You give them that, and they'll follow. And that's where I come in."

A Nation that can prefer disgrace to danger is prepared for a master, and deserves one. ~ Alexander Hamilton

The destiny of man is not measured by material compensations, when great forces are on the move in the world we learn they are spirits not enemies. There is something going on in time and space and beyond time and space which whether we like it or not spells duty. ~ Winston Churchill

"Ideas don't determine who's right. Power determines who's right. And I have the power. So I'm right."

"You know, there was a time where nobody threatened me. I just wouldn't stand for it. The amount of people I killed, of bodies I twisted and bones I snapped, all because they had allowed their anger to momentarily overwhelm their good sense. I regret it all now, of course. I was out of control. I was indulging the darkness inside me far too often. I was not, Mr. Prave, a very nice person. But I have changed. I have allowed the years to mellow me. Now I find joy in simple pleasures. A good book. A fine wine. Good company. All of these things make me smile. They make me happy. But once in a while, I get the urge. You know what I'm talking about, don't you. The urge for destruction. The urge to hunt, maim, kill. It's quite a thing, to experience that urge, to let it wash over you, to give into it. It's addictive. It's all-consuming. You lose yourself to it. It's quite, quite wonderful. I can feel it, even as we speak, tapping around the edges of my mind, trying to prise me open, to slip it's fingers in. And it would be so easy to let it happen. But we're all like that, aren't we? We're all barbarians at our core. We're all savage, murderous beasts. I know I am. I'm sure you are. The only difference between us, Mr. Prave, is how loudly we roar. I know I roar very loudly indeed. How about you? Do you think you can match me?"
~ China Sorrows, Skulduggery Pleasant: Death Bringer.
"In the meantime, no one should roam the camp alone. Use the buddy system."
"Understood." Will looked at Nico. "Will you be my buddy?"
"You're a dork," Nico announced.
~ The Hidden Oracle, Rick Riordan

"We're not retreating! We're just advancing in a different direction!"
-Gen. Oliver P. Smith
"'Tis the business of small minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death."
-Thomas Paine

"Integrity and firmness is all I can promise; these, be the voyage long or short, shall never forsake me although I may be deserted by all men."
-George Washington
