But if her father was a river otter and her mother was a sea otter that means they can marry.

Really? I didn't remember that about her mother. I need to re-read that book.
Yea, I don't remember that either.

I don't recall it ever saying that her mother was a sea otter. If she was a sea otter though then that would solve this problem.

Here's a quote from Redwall Wiki:
High Queen Rhulain Wildlough was the original High Rhulain of Green Isle. She was the sister of Corriam Wildlough, sister-in-law to Runa Wildlough, and the ancestor of Banjon Wildlough and Tiria Wildlough.

Tam and Martin

What does that have to do with it though? It said in the books that the Wildlough clan was river otters.

I don't remember exactly where, but it does say something about it. I think when the two otter slaves are talking about Leatho at the beginning, they say he's a sea otter and they are river otters. Later, one of them is mentioned as a Wildlough.

Well there's always a first, right?

On the topic of Leatho being older than Tiria, I support this theory. Tiria was pretty young -- still in her teens, I'll wager -- when she took on the mantle of High Queen. The book referred to her as young several times; it was part of her character development.

Leatho, on the other hand, was never referred to as "young" (correct me if I'm wrong) and it was clear he'd been fighting Rigu and his cats for some time. I'm going to hazard a guess that he's possibly around twice Tiria's age, not necessarily old enough to be her father, but close.

I never thought he was that much older then her. It never describes him that way in the book, and from his speech and how others addressed him, I always assumed he was the equivalent of 20-30.

Same. I was thinking that he was maybe 25?

By my theory, if Tiria was 14, Leatho would be around 28. Though I think I need to reread this book just to be sure...

Then I guess you're right. I always thought of Tiria as maybe...18? I guess everyone's has a different.

I think Tiria was about 17 or 18.  Remember that Brinty was around 15-16, and it was said somewhere that Tiria was only a season older than him?

Brinty's exact age isn't made perfectly clear, though. Though, your guess as to his age should at least be somewhat close, Doogy.
