Nobody's mentioned Ragnarok. And if some super hero person turned it into something to do with Loki and Thor (Blergh, I could rant on about how they shouldn't have done that, (LOKI AND THOR ARE BROTHERS, NOT ARCHENEMIES!) but... ahh... I won't here.) According to the Norse Ragnarok, there will be a war. Loki will turn evil (Sigh.) and kill Thor. Afterwards, he will release Fenrir, the dread-wolf bound under the mountain, and Fenrir will kill most of the gods, before being stopped by Odin. As Odin strangles Fenrir, the wolf will bite him around the neck, ending in both of their deaths. The rest of the world ends similarly; Asgard, Jotunheim, and all those places fall. After the sudden war, there is a surprising peace. There are only four survivors: The god and goddess of fertility, and two humans: A man, and a woman, standing on the rich soil of Midgard. This was the Norse apocalypse idea, and it ended with a new beginning, a fresh start for a better world.
Of all the End of the World ideas, I like that one the most.

More than likely the downfall of the world as we know it today will be at the hands of human stupidity. The PERSON is intelligent, PEOPLE are dumb.
Problems in life are never resolved by distancing yourself from them. Escape is never the safest plan nor the safest place.

They told me I was gullible. I believed them.

I voted yes because EVERY sun eventually explodes, engulfing allow planets in its system, then dwindiling into a white dwarf. It then implodes and turns into a black hole. This will take billions of years, and by then humans will have most likely spread off earth and into many places.

*cough*define world*cough*

End of the universe?  Perhaps.  Dark energy is theorized to push apart space itself while remaining a constant density, thus creating an infinite source of (unusable :()energy.

The Earth?  The Sun doesn't last forever.  No energy source is forever.  (dark energy just pushes itself apart?  not sure)

Energy shall be useless.  :-\ shire uplifting, that even if the human race makes it, its going to see the end of humanity...

However, some think that we can "copy" the big bang and create universes. Time to start planning my business idea for personal universes....

Humans will never have the power to cause an apocalypse- oh, sure, we have the power to kill each other, possibly even to eradicate the entire human race. But unless we actually destroy the entire planet, life will endure. Nature balances itself- overpopulation of prey means more predators to reduce their numbers, and then the predators numbers go down as a result of that. We very well might create such a hole in our atmosphere so that we all die- but more resilient things will adapt over generations, evolve to be better suited to the environment.
In about 4 billion years the earth will crash into the sun. Until that day, life will endure.

Aw, come-on. Ever heard of a death star?  :D

I'm presuming humans will become extinct, whether through their own doing or not, before they develop that kind of technology. Nuclear bombs are big- But they don't even take a sizeable chunk out of the planet. They don't send tons of rock into orbit. How big of an explosion would you need to destroy a planet?
