I could have sworn I've posted here, obviously not.

Well, my #1 favourite is J.R.R. Tolkien, even beating Brian Jacques (yeah, you read that right). I love how he spent so much on his tales, creating such an intricate history for each race and for the mythology itself. Then Brian Jacques, Richard Adams (Watership Down), Jack London (Call of the Wild, White Fang), J.K. Rowling, George Orwell, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Mark Twain, DOuglas Adams and Kathryn Lasky (the first six Guardians of Ga'Hoole books specifically, after that the series just got weird).
Received mostly negative reviews.

I'm surprised nobody's said this already (maybe cause these books are for people who are at least fifteen or sixteen because they're so violent and dark)...

Robert Jordan!!!!!!

Mattio

Never heard of him. I read about the same things 15 year olds read

He writes the Wheel of Time series. Barnes and Noble actually considers them adult books. They are 500-1000 pages each and there are 14 of them, the 14th just came out. I wouldn't recommend reading them yet for several reasons. It's violent, dark, and sometimes just plain scary. They were probably originally written for adults, and the villain is even more evil than in Lord of the Rings. The writing style is great, though, and I love the epic battles and character development seen throughout the story

Wait- there's other authors??   :o

Just kidding- for me it's probably James Patterson, Tamora Pierce, and J.R.R. Tolkien.
A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight!

I thought I'd posted here. D: I must rectify this.

Dianna Wynne Jones is a fabulous author, I especially recommend her Chrestomanci series as well as Dark Lord of Derkholm. She wrote with a very dry sense of humor and her characters are always open to interpretation on some level, which I like. JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, and Kathryn Lasky are always favorites... I admit to reading more Erin Hunter than I'd like to admit, as well, haha.

I also recently picked up my first novel by Clive Cussler and it was actually quite good -- blew my expectations out of the water! -- so I must recommend him as well.
Redwall is always open, its tables laden, to you and any of good heart.
