The mountain fortress of Salamandastron rose, formidable and silent, from the sands. The sky was overcast and gloomy, and the sun hung back behind cloud cover, as if it knew what terrible events had taken place. The silence was heavy, oppressive. Even the breaking waves had little effect on it. Then the keening cry of a seagull rent the air as a little ship sailed into sight.

The ship sailed as close to the mountain as possible before dropping anchor, and the crew came ashore in the longboat. Once everybeast was ashore, they gathered expectantly at the front entrance to Salamandastron. The first mate, a wildcat, stepped forward and pounded a fist against the closed gate. "Lady Nerena! We have important news!"

Barely visible in the distance, a menacing hulk lurks. It is a corsair ship, waiting for its chance to take over the mighty Salamandastron. Its leverage lies unconscious in the hold- a small group of leverets taken from the mountain.

A cold wind washes over the beach, and everybeast shivers- there is danger in the air.
A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight!

Tarragon the captain stood next to her first mate fingering the hilt of her rapier there was a menace on the wind she could smell it and it was making some of her crew uneasy. Even she was on edge and more alert. she turned to face her crew and said "Remember be respectful to the badger Lady and keep your vittles away from the hares," She said with a wink to lighten the mood. She then turned to Max and said in a lowered tone. "What do you think First? You used to be one of them you know how they think,"

Flinkclo stared towards the mountain that rose in the distance. Formidable, and to the young poll cat, menacing. A mighty Badger lady lived there, ruling the mountain of hares with authority. This, of course, was the place a corsair crew would try to capture. he thought. He hadn't dared to say anything about it to the captain, or any other creatures, though, as he was a recent addition to the crew, and would likely be killed for mutiny if he did. With the Leverets to use as ransom in the hold, though...I might just work.

Ruby slowly came too the ground under her was moving. Why was it moving? She opened her eyes to see a dark wooden beamed ceiling hidden in shadows. She brought up her chubby paws and rubbed her eyes. when she had finished nothing had changed. She sat up and rubbed her eyes again. She saw three of her young friend lying on the wood floor near by and remembered what had happened. She sniffed and rubbed her nose with the back of her paw and then she go up and started shaking Wisteria. "Wake up. Wake up!"

Ani was standing near the back of the crew. He was a little nervous, but wouldn't admit it. This place was huge! No wonder the corsair's wanted to take this place over.

Cisza made her way down to the hold. "I wonder if our little guests are awake yet." She chuckled to herself.

The Shade

Akala stared at the huge mountain, his thoughts similar to the rest of the crew's. The pine marten drew his jacket closer to himself. The sight was indeed intimidating, although he wasn't scared. He wondered what the Cap'n made of all this. The wildcat -or whatever beast he was- is a canny beast, a good beast to have one your side when it came to negotiations.

Akala glanced at Ani, a sly grin creeping across the pine marten's face as he spoke.

"Aye, it's a nice liddle berth, a fine place if ever I saw one. But our Capt'n, now he's a canny one, sure as rain to have sly plan, I can bet my left ear on it."

The ear in question probably wasn't even worth betting, seeing as one-third of it was missing already. He tugged on it absent-mindedly, glaring at the impressive mound of rock.

OOC:  If it is not morning, please tell me so that I may make this correct.  :)

Tobias del Mar was excited.  Of course, this did not break through his scowl as he surveyed the enormous mountain in the early morning light.  It was just past dawn, and the sky was rather grey.  Not that it mattered, but the captain wanted to see his new fortress in a good light, not darkness.  Still, that could wait.

Climbing down from the mast, where he'd been standing previously, the genet landed softly on the deck, immediately searching through the sea of crewbeasts for his first mate.  "Mattina," he barked quietly.  "Somebeast find Mattina.  I have need of her."

"What do you think First? You used to be one of them you know how they think."

Max's paws clenched involuntarily as he thought of her past. A quiet hiss escaped her before she composed herself and directed a wink at some of the more nervous-looking crewbeasts. "Aye, that's righ' 'nough. I don't think they'd risk an attack on us now, at least. Most corsairs're a slimy bunch o' gutless cowards. They migh' try a nigh' attack tho'. But if their cap'n's got anythin' in 'is 'ead other'n rocks, 'e'd prob'ly want t'get a good look at us first."

Finished, she crossed her arms and gave the door a stern look. "What's takin' 'em so long?" she muttered quietly.

Tarragon looked up at the mountain and then back out at sea. She griped the hilt of her rapier drawing it she looked down the length of the blade at the corsair ship. "If I know anything about Salamandastron I know that a bunch of slimy sea scum like that lot wont be nigh enough to bring et down,"

Ruby stopped shaking Wist and leaning over and taking a deep breath she yelled in her ear "WAAAAKE UUUUP!" She then tipped back and plopped down on her bottom legs splayed out and crossed her arms over her chest they way her mother would when she was giving her a talking down. She put on a stern face and one ear flopped over her eye making her look more comical than anything else.

OOC: my last two posts have been deleted due to me not paying attention. I thought Akala was a good guy. So please forget what I said, and carry on.
BIC: Cisza looked through a crack in the door of the hold. At least one of the little hares was awake.

Ani made his way through to where the Captain was standing, he wanted to hear what was going on.

Shaegar stood at the edge of the ship, looking around at the other crewmembers with distaste.  What a bunch of puny beasts, he thought. he was thinking about that when he heard the captain calling out. He walked swiftly and silently over to behind him, waiting and listening for what he had to say.

Skallagrim was at the front of the ship, looking out at the huge mountain looming ahead of him. If it were up to him, they would have already attacked and ensued in a glorious bloodbath. But it wasn't up to him, and he would have to wait.

The female ermine walked up the stairs that led to the main deck. She pushed an unfortunate crew beast aside, letting out some of her anger of being rudely disturbed from her sleep that morning.

It had been a hard past week of planning and action, so what ever sleep she could get was valuable. Eying the ships' captain, her expression changed. Like the sun shining after a storm.

Mattina, the first mate, made her way over to him. Glaring a warning glance at Shaegar, with her sharp deadly blue eyes that seemed to say get out of here. She had reasons of being alone with the Genet.

She stood a pace behind him, "You asked for me cap'n?" She said as a question, implying that he should explain his appeal for her presence.

Rigg stood silently on the deck as Tarragon spoke to Max- the first mate. The otter couldn't keep his gaze off the giant mountain that stood before them, mysteriously standing beneath the grey sky with dawn piercing through and sharing it's light with the earth. Silent and strong were the words that popped into his head, like a great warrior he had once heard heroic tales of. While the corsair ship rested near the shallows, sending an ominous message. Apart from the sound of low murmuring from the crew, all Rigg could hear was the waves rocking the ship and gently crashing against it, slowly swaying it from side to side. He placed his paws on his belt and looked at the captain from the corner of his eyes, he knew Tarragon wasn't stupid, but he was clueless as to why they weren't heading to the mountain to warn them of the corsairs. Though it wouldn't be surprising if she knew something that he didn't.

Creas sat silently on the edge of his bed and though it was slightly misty, which wasn't surprising considering they were so close to the sea, he could still make out the two ships that floated near the shallows through the window. Whether they were friend or foe, he did not know but he could tell they weren't abandoned by the small figures that stood on their deck. The young hare debated with himself if he should inform Lady Nerena. After a minute or so had passed, he got up quickly and grabbed a dark brown tunic from the edge of his bed, not as smart as his red parade outfit, much more humble and comfortable. Rushing out of the dormitory, he bounded up the stairs -two at a time- to the top of the mountain where all badger lords and ladies had there room. He suspected that she would be there since it was so early, but if the room was empty then he would head to the mess hall to see if she was having breakfast or to ask the higher ranked hares if they knew where she could be found. Eventually he reached her room, taking a few seconds to slow his breathing and smooth his tunic, he then knocked on the big oak door in front of him.
