Upon reaching the Abbey, Kaylan had wandered over to the gatehouse. She knew the gatekeeper wasn't there, for she'd seen him as she crossed the lawns. All the ottermaid wanted right then was to be alone and sort things out.

She entered the gatehouse and shut the door after her, glancing around. There were several large bookcases, a small, unlit fireplace, a bed in the corner, and a large overstuffed chair, with a small table next to it.

Kaylan threw herself in the chair, then leaned forward and rested her chin in her paws. She was confused and a little worried, too. What would Skipper and the ottercrew say if they knew that she had believed a vermin's story and almost accepted that he had, indeed, done something good? She still didn't know if vermin could be good... But, she then reminded herself, Argunath definitely has done something good. It's weird, but... seems to be true... She sighed, then frowned. But how could he have done something good? Skipper knows about vermin, and he says they're evil. So Argunath can't be good, not really, she argued.

The ottermaid leaned back in her chair. As she did so, she caught sight of a small brown book sticking out from a shelf. Anxious for something to get her mind off the troubling thoughts running through her head, Kaylan rose, walked over, and pulled the book from the shelf. She settled back in her chair and opened the book. The first page informed her that it was the personal journal of a long-ago Abbot called Saxtus. The original diary had fallen apart many seasons before, but had fortunately been copied by a Redwall brother. That copy had also been lost due to its age, but a young Abbess named Fern had copied it, and it was that copy, pages now yellowed and cracking, that Kaylan now held in her paws. Intrigued, the ottermaid began to read.

The first few pages told of day-to-day happenings at Redwall, but soon the pace picked up. Abbot Saxtus wrote of two searats that came to Redwall, then of how they murdered the badgermum, Mellus. Kaylan clenched her paw, enraged that such a thing should happen. But she read on, about the surprising actions of the searat Blaggut, and how he proved to the Abbeydwellers that not all vermin are evil.

At last Kaylan closed the book. In it she had unexpectedly found more proof that not all vermin have to be evil. And, unable to think up another argument, she simply accepted that Argunath was one of those good vermin.

OOC: @Jet: Modified also. Oh, everyone? I'm taking over Argunath, for Skarzs. He's gone off on a road trip that will take a month. We arranged this in PMs.
*+@Jukka: Ooh, very nice post!

Jukka the Sling

OOC: Okay.

And thanks! :D BIC:

Kaylan remained in the gatehouse a little longer, just thinking. At last she put the journal away and headed back out of the dim gatehouse into the sunlight. She knew she had to apologize to Argunath. It was the right thing to do, even if it hurt her pride. She had seriously misjudged him, and the least she could do was try to make things right.

Riosemary shrugged. "I don't know. Shall we go see?"
The cougar shrugged. "Sure." He said. BEsides, Rosemary was already heading over.

Arya had finished toasting her feet and thinking, and she passed through Cavern Hole, noting all the beasts there, and went out onto the Lawns, bringing Martin's Sword with her, planning on practicing outside the Gatehouse. As she got closer, she saw Kaylan's head through a window, and thought she'd pop in and check up on her. "Hey, Kaylan." The squirrel said, opening the door.

As Kaylan put her paw to the latch, the door opened suddenly. She stepped back a little, but then it saw it was only Arya. "Oh hi," the ottermaid said in reply to her friend's greeting. "Um, where's Argunath right now?"

"Back in Cavern Hole. Why?" Arya asked, looking at the ottermaid quizzically. "MAybe once you're done talking with him (If that's what you're going to do), you could come help or watch me practice?" She asked.

Jukka the Sling

"Sure! Where should I meet you? Oh, and yeah, I'm gonna talk to Argunath. I have to apologize," she added a little uncomfortably. "I've been really rude to him, because I thought he was up to no good... But now I think he means well, even if he's a bit unstable."

"Well, I was planning on practicing over here. Then I saw you and decided to pop in and say hello." Arya explained, pausing for a moment to draw a breath. "It's a good idea. I mean, apologizing to Argunath. You were, ah, quite chilly."

Jukka the Sling

"Yeah, I know. Well, you kinda were too, this morning at breakfast," Kaylan pointed out, not unkindly.

so I was!" Arya said, laughing at herself. "Well, see you in a bit." The squirrel said, then walked over a spot, and drew her sword.

Jukka the Sling

"See ya!" Kaylan said, and headed off in the direction of the main Abbey building. She entered Great Hall, walked down the stairs to Cavern Hole and almost immediately saw the cougar. The ottermaid slowly walked over, trying to figure out how best to start.

"Argunath?" she began. "I'd like to apologize. For how I've treated you. I've been really rude and misjudged you, and I'm sorry."

Argunath looked at the ottermaid, and rumbled, "It is alright. You were brought up that way." The cat said this with an even tone of voice, but he actually a little bit puzzled.

The ottermaid looked down at her footpaws. "Yeah, but that's really no excuse. I should've tried to find out more specifically what happened with the Dibbun, instead of immediately assuming you saved him with some ulterior motive.  And I was just rude last night, saying that vermin cause death wherever they go, and all that. I know now that not all 'vermin' are evil." She paused, then remembered the rest of what she'd intended to say. "And I'm sorry about shooting you in the leg; the Abbess told me to be ready with my bow in case she, uh, was in danger. I'm - I'm truly sorry for everything."

"It is forgiven, little one." The big cat said, then added, "I must apologize as well, for attacking both you and the good Mother Abbess. I am sorry; I was not in my right mind then."

Rosemary was tactfully staying out of the conversation, watching the otter and the cat.

The Skarzs

OOC: I'm not sure what I should be doing right now, seeing as you're playing Argunath and I am only here temporarily. :P
