Is this website safe from the Heartbleed bug?

Matthias720

I believe we are. However, if you're concerned about it, please feel free to change your password.

Okay! Thanks. I'm moreso curious than concerned- The idea of the Heartbleed bug is interesting to me. :)

I wasn't sure either, but this page will hopefully help: http://heartbleed.com
"The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater." ~J.R.R. Tolkien

Basically, about 2/3 of the internet uses the same type of security software, and one of the people who creates and updates that software messed up on a single line of code. So, someone figured out how to exploit it to get past the software and steal account data. You can imagine that this is quite bad.

Fortunately, this single-line-of-code bug was fixed with another single line of code. Once websites update their security to the latest version, everything goes back to being secure. :)
