Let us honor and admire those who are brave and thoughtful enough to risk their lives for the population. Let us not forget those who are no longer with us. Let us also not forget the family members of veterans, who also go through an ordeal.

Let me know if I forgot to acknowledge someone ;)

Veterans have sacrificed for the people.

Thank you! :) Enjoy your special day.

I just want to say that this day isn't about 50% off sales or being nice to that old geezer next door who served in Vietnam (well, yes to that last part) and that it's about everybody who served in any war. Especially those fallen in WWI, when Armistice Day was created.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Hey! Are you calling my dad an old geezer?! Not cool, man, not cool.

Anyway, all veterans everywhere, enjoy your day, and thank you.

I set up flags out at he cemetery with my CAP unit. And we got to honor a lot of Soldiers, Marines, and Navy men, and women. Living and dead those brave people give so much. Its the least we can do to honor them.

Thank you Sky.

Thanks you all, for posting.

Thank you for thanking me, Sand. I'm glad to hear you got to do that!

It really touched me today when I got to shake 4 WWII veterans hands, telling them thank you, but then turning right back and saying thank you. That was something.

I wrote two quick poems today for the occasion (and my experience), so I hope it feels Patriotic!

When a soldier goes to heaven,
The angles rat-tat their drums,
His helmet is set by the gate,
And marching songs are sung.

He no longer needs dog-tags,
Or a pack of bullets 'n beans,
All that truly matters now,
Is walking with God on the golden streets.

His comrades will greet him,
And he'll fill them in,
On how their battles played out,
Before they all went.

And when he passes by,
His new mansion, bright and slick,
A long lost smile will beam out,
Instead of the stern face and trigger click.

When he hears his loved ones crying,
With wishes that he would have come home,
He will look down and whisper,
"I've already gone home."

So when a soldier goes to heaven,
It's something not to mourn,
For with his death comes something greater,
Eternal peace, and the end of a war.

I shook that hand that fired off that gun,
I saw those eyes that faced fears of war,
I felt the warmth that kept a unit alive,
I heard the words echoed from the French beach far away,
I was told to fearless, humble and ready,
I met the brave man, from Vietnam to Iran,
I solemnly stood,
Before a Veteran.
I want the world of Tolkien,
The message of Lewis;
The adventure of Jacques,
And the heart of Milne.
But I want the originality of me.
