Embroidery is using a special material called 'Embroidering Floss' to make pictures and designs on fabric by using special stitches. I'm learning and doing some patterns, and trieing to do some of my own designs. Any of you do this, or sewing of any kind? Or knitting or crocheting or leatherworking?

I learned to sew recently for a cosplay and I've been making dogs almost non-stop since then.
im gay!!!!!!

I've tried once or twice, but it never comes out good.
What you're doing sounds cool!

I'm a pragmatic sewer. (Wait, that doesn't look right... What's the word for 'one who sews' as distinct from a place where human waste goes? Eh, whatever.) Sometimes I'll want something that either isn't available or is very expensive... (A cloak, a hood, a tunic) So I'll sew it myself. I don't really like sewing, but I'm totally willing to if it means I get cool stuff. :P

Embroidery is cool, though. I think I did a tiny bit of super basic embroidery when I was a lot younger... Is there any chance you could upload images of what you've made? I'd love to see it.

Leatherworking, though, that's something I actually got pretty good at. I made bookmarks and sheaths and a leather breastplate... Then I became vegetarian and it sort of grossed me out.

@Galli: With slightly less context, that would make zero sense. :P

Dotti Dillworthy

I've done cross-stitching and crocheting for school projects, but seldom do beyond that due to too much time in my hands and limited budget (most of my savings are kept for future uses other than embroidery). My craftsmanship was usually quite good, I guess.

@Ashleg Make sure you use the floss. You might wanna reduce it to fewer strands too.

@Rusvul I'm a sewer too. Any tips on how to get rid of the odor? The other sewers are rejecting me! I think they put soap in the waters. Ill see if I can figure out how to upload photos. I really really wanna do leatherworking! Always have, it looks awesome. So expensive, though! Four hundred bucks for a hide? No thanks.

@Dotti but embroidery is so cheap! Tons of floss for 39 cents, patterns for three books, hoops for four bucks! I got everything I need plus more for about fifteen dollars.

@Galli I like making dogs too, but I use necromancy.

I also took a sewing class in school in sixth grade, but I ended up just making the teacher mad all the time and breaking a machine. ::)

Dotti Dillworthy

@Ashleg *giggles* You sounded like a classmate of mine during seventh grade (first year junior high) days, who was a thorn to our teacher's eyes. He was such a mischief, but he had learnt that lesson a hard way. Now, he has changed, as far as I know. From the-sewing-machine-breaker to an aspiring tailor.

@Bonaparte Probably I will set aside some of my savings for some new little project.

Blaggut

@Ashleg And that is why hand sewing is better xP

Hahaha, nice.
I also broke a KitchenAid and lost some things in that same class. And didn't really take our written assignments as seriously as I could've.
I bet she's glad not to have me anymore! XD

(And yeah, junior high's great isn't it. *sigh* ::))

Banya

That's awesome!  Post pictures, guys!

I like to sew, but I don't have a sewing machine with me since I moved away from home, and I haven't got the time right now.  I have some skirts I made myself, and I made my senior prom dress.  I'll try to do more when I can.

I'd love to learn to embroider.  It's so pretty.

I did this once, but I thought it was boring, plus I can't thread needles.

I do loads of sewing. I'm at college doing a massive stitched collage as my end of year project. I want to become a costume designer and embroidery is one of my great loves.  ;D

If I ever sew again I'll consider it.
