Eeeeehhh, not really.  The ingredients are similar, but real scone aficionados would definitely say that they aren't the same.

Eeeeehhh, not really.  The ingredients are similar, but real scone aficionados would definitely say that they aren't the same.

There aren't any real scone aficionados. They all die from arguments about the pronunciation of scone.

They're less dense, more buttery and flaky, and not sweet. I have also never seen them made any way other than plain.
