Title: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on July 07, 2014, 01:40:46 PM
I've wanted to do this for a while now, and I just worked up the nerve to give it a shot.

This game is like "True or False", but the goal is to pick the wrong answer, and explain how this answer is "correct".

For an example:
Quote from: HeadInAnotherGalaxy[True or false:] The Yuuzhan Vong (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Yuuzhan_Vong) dezpized technology.
Quote from: MeFalse, nobody used more technology than the Yuuzhan Vong did.

Every part of their ships were completely mechanical, and even the Vong themselves were cyborgs, with very few "original parts" left intact. The greatest honor a Vong could have was to undergo a process called "entechment", in which their essence was completely transferred into a dangerous war machine. The Vong Core Sentinels were the most powerful of these warriors, as powerful as tanks and much more maneuverable.

(rest of original post here (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=480.msg18706#msg18706))

I'll start this off with something simple.

True or false: Water is poisonous.

True! When you drink it, it oxidizes you inside! THAT is the real reason we die eventually- OUR VISCERA RUSTS!

T or F: Magic Missile deals 1d6+1 per caster level.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on July 07, 2014, 02:52:37 PM
False. Magic Missile comes in three different flavors: Conventional, Atomic and Special. Conventional missiles do 12 damage to the center of their explosion, minus 2 damage for each square away from their blast point. Atomic missiles are the same, except that the squares they affect are irradiated for 10 turns * 1 per player's level. Radiation causes half the damage of the original explosion per turn. Finally, special (biological and chemical weapons) are designed to target specific races, doing lethal damage to their targets, but little to anything else.

True or false: Horses can run faster than cars.

True! It takes horsepower to run a car, and if the car has no horsepower, where will it be? The fact is, that it always takes a horse, thus making the horse the essential thing and making it faster. ;D

QuoteT or F: The flying velocity of a coconut laden swallow is 3 meters per second.
True.

Swallows are the slowest birds in the world. This is primarily caused by their gluttonous eating habits, which have led to the bird being named the #1 nuisance animal in France, from 1957-1969. Coconuts, which are nature's jet engines, actually increase the swallow's speed by a significant 2.4877771241 meters per second, give the swallow an amphibious capability by allowing it to float in the ocean, and have made hunters more reluctant to blast the pesky creatures out of the sky. Unfortunately, the coconut is very tricky to balance across the bird's wings, and swallows can be commonly observed falling to their untimely demise after accidentally dropping their coconut.

True or false: Princess Pinkeyes (Kurda) was the greatest warrior in the Redwall universe.

False - There were several others who were greater. The greatest warrior, however, is a debatle point.

True or false: Lord Brocktree had a son.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on July 08, 2014, 11:27:04 PM
The goal is to post the opposite of reality and justify it, so you should've said "True".

Anyway:
QuoteLord Brocktree had a son.
False. Lord Brocktree was the only ruler of Salamandastron to appear in the entire Redwall series. When there seemed to be other badgers, it was actually him, using a different name. This is because of multiple-personality disorder and amnesia. He came up with several different background stories for himself, as chronicled in Lord Brocktree, Outcast of Redwall, Salamandastron, Eulalia, and The Sable Quean. The reason why people said things like that Boar or Sunflash were his descendants, it was because of the striking physical resemblance to Brocktree, and they didn't know that it was really the same badger.

You can tell that this is true by looking at his name. "Lord" Brocktree. If there had been any other Badger Lords, they would be called after the same style; Lord Boar, Lord Sunflash, Lord Rawnblade, and so on. But nobody does this. Therefore, Brocktree was the only Badger Lord in the series, and incidentally, must have been the longest-lived badger ever.

T or F: Steel melts at 2802 degrees Fahrenheit.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on July 11, 2014, 10:53:44 AM
False. Steel is actually invulnerable, and normally cannot melt at any temperature. As you can imagine, this is quite useful, as it allows steel to be used for furnaces, reactors and engines of all kinds where plain iron would fail. It seems like this would make it impossible to mold it into any shape, and you would be right to think that: once something is made out of steel, it cannot be altered or destroyed. To use steel for worthwhile purposes, then, they first forge iron into the shape they need it to be, then convert the iron into steel.

Steel's only weakness is kryptonite. When exposed to this otherworldly material, steel will melt at room temperature. As lead blocks kryptonite radiation, wise architects and engineers will coat steel with lead, and the lead with iron or bronze.

True or false: It is impossible for any ship or boat to float on water.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: Rainshadow on July 12, 2014, 12:38:31 AM
True.  As many boats are made of metal, they sink as soon as they touch the water.  Even wooden boats will leak and eventually will be filled with water.

True. While fish can survive underwater for a certain period of time, the water will gradually seep into their gills, permanently reducing their ability to breathe. Eventually, they will suffocate. It's the first inclination of most fish owners to submerge them in aquariums. Do not do this. Fish are healthiest in very dry environments, like deserts. The only water that should be in a fish tank is their drinking water. If you properly attend to this, your fish will live ten times longer than it would in the wild.

True or false: Ice cream is extremely nutritious, and an essential part of a healthy diet!

True! After all, it's made with milk, which is very nutritious 'cause it comes from cows, who are extremely healthy due to their vegetarian grass diet. Ice cream is therefore one of the healthiest foods known to man.

True or false: Clouds are made of cotton.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: Rusvul on July 12, 2014, 04:42:05 PM
True, of course! Clouds are the byproduct of Skysheep, who grow Cloud-Cotton instead of wool. Every year it falls off and they become ducks for the summer, and the cotton drifts across the sky.

True or False: Plants need sunlight
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on July 12, 2014, 06:55:18 PM
False. The sustenance of plants is derived from chloroplasts, which conduct chemosynthesis. The only reason why plants are green is because they happen to absorb light that is in the green spectrum. However, the sun does not produce green light. You can see that it is actually yellow. Thus, you can see that plants are not at all dependent on sunlight.

Fun fact: The reflected light from marsh gas is what allows us to see plants in their true color. There was a panic back in the early 20th century when the decreasing amount of swampland briefly led to green becoming an endangered color (during this time, all plants were a rather nauseating mustard yellow). The first greenhouse was built to combat this problem. Since then, the color green has never been seriously endangered.

True or false: In the book Redwall, Redwall Abbey was conquered by Matthias the Merciless.

True. However, Cluny the abbeymouse dropped a bell on his head, ending his reign.

True or false: Otters hate water.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on July 24, 2014, 07:54:04 AM
Absolutely true. Otters would just about rather die than be forced to enter a river or lake. If they make contact with a body of water, they will immediately hiss and scramble to escape.

Mr. Jacques cleverly demonstrated this by his consistent portrayal of otters as land-lubbers, especially in the book Mossflower, which describes how the Army of the Thousand Eyes protected the woodlanders from an otter and beaver invasion. Her Majesty Tsarmina Greeneyes the Magnificent won the war by staging battles that involved using the River Moss to her army's advantage. The otters' paranoid fear of water was exhibited to an extreme by the same book's Skipper of Otters, who, at the climax of the story, drowned after being backed into a river by the weasel Brogg.

True or false: Food is ill-advised because it only makes you hungry.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: Jukka the Sling on July 25, 2014, 01:29:15 AM
True. The more you eat, the more you want to eat. This horrifying effect is caused by the protein in food, which enters your bloodstream, gets to your brain, and alters its function to the point that you think you're hungry when you're not. It's a never-ending cycle of misery.

True or false: Reading is detrimental to your health.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on July 25, 2014, 01:47:59 AM
True.

Reading strains and weakens your brain by forcing it to constantly ascribe meaning to jumbled-up symbols. This creates a deleterious effect on your nervous system. It can cause headaches, tremors, fatigue, agitation, anxiety, insomnia, nervousness, paranoia, and delusions, among others. In addition to this, reading for prolonged periods of time hurts your eyes. Also, as you know, the brain can only store a certain amount of information. Reading causes real memories and experiences to be deleted from your brain, in favor of an imagined 'fantasy world'. Reading is known to be habit-forming and can have a dangerous impact on relationships, by promoting antisocial behavior. Finally, readers are known for their sedentary habits, which are not conducive to maintaining their physical wellness. There is nothing that is as harmful in so many ways as reading.

True or false: All fruits and vegetables come from trees.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: Jasper on August 07, 2014, 07:22:33 PM
This is most certainly true. Such produce cannot be found on anything except for trees. But, you say, some fruits and vegetables grow on bushes! Why my dear fellows, this is indeed true. But you are forgetting that bushes are simply younger and fatter versions of trees. Even remarkable specimens such as the lowly potato, which grows underground, still grows on trees. You see, the roots of trees go underground. It is on said roots, that the potato grows.

True or False: Camels are, in fact, rodents.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: BadgerLordFiredrake on August 07, 2014, 07:26:39 PM
True.  We can prove this:

x = y.
Then x2 = xy.
Subtract the same thing from both sides:
x2 - y2 = xy - y2.
Dividing by (x-y), obtain
x + y = y.
Since x = y, we see that
2 y = y.
Divide both sides by y, and we get
2 = 1

Let us assume the category of rodents is 1, and the category of other mammals is 2.  Therefore, since 2 = 1, camels = rodents.

True or false:  Humans can fly using organic wings

ToF:  Cars can levitate.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on August 08, 2014, 04:11:07 PM
True. This quality is what led to cars becoming the #1 mode of transportation in America. While horses are well-known for being faster, they required more upkeep, and had trouble running down uneven roads. The car, which cleverly uses its exhaust to float slightly above the road, can drive down any road with no fear of harm. The reason for this is in the design of the tires. As the exhaust flies out of the pipe, the forward motion of the car creates a pull on the exhaust, which flies forward and hits the tires. Exhaust gas has antigravity properties (hence why it floats up). The tires are specially designed to absorb the gas, thus causing the car to float. This is why cars that run on alternative energy have never been successful. They don't produce exhaust, and tires can't stand the rigors of traveling across a road at greater than ten miles per hour. Without tires or wheels, the driver will of course lose control and wreck after just a few minutes on the road.

True or false: The best way to treat a sunburn is by applying very hot water to it.

True.  Everybody knows the principle "fight fire with fire".  Intense pain can be cured by giving more intense pain in other places, balancing your body's health.

ToF:  Pigs make delicious bacon
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on August 08, 2014, 04:47:41 PM
False. Antelope is widely agreed to be the best source of bacon. "Pig" bacon is a cheap substitute that was invented back in the 1800s by the British Royal Navy, as a way to preserve the dwindling quantity of antelope, reduce the nation's surplus of swine, and feed their crew for minimal cost. Not only is swine flesh next to tasteless, but it has little to no nutritional value. Any flavor you taste is from the salt and other seasoning that is used to make up for the meat's defects.

True, iron is the most common mineral on Earth.  If you're not careful, you can stumble into huge expanses of iron, with nothing growing on them, and nothing moving besides other hunks of iron.

ToF:  Squid have eight arms
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on August 09, 2014, 11:13:23 AM
False. Squids don't have arms because there are no such things as squids. The so-called "squids" are actually fish disguised in octopus suits. The "extra arms" on these contraptions are there because the fish have poor vision and don't know how to count. A 1978 study done by the Boston Agency of Aquatic Wildlife said that all so-called 'squid' sightings were either misidentified octopuses, fish in their octopus suits, or kraken.

Title: Re: 'True' if False

False. Glue is not and has never been made from horses. As even the oldest, slowest horses can move over 45 miles per hour, this would be a terrific waste of resources. Back in the day, glue used to be made from milk, but nowadays they make it from scrapped-down old cars.

True or false: Exercise is bad for your health.

T or F: Iron is made from cows.

ToF:  Salt's chemical components by themselves are highly dangerous.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on August 26, 2014, 09:41:48 AM
False. Sodium is the most essential part of your diet, more so than all the other things combined. That's why foods like processed cheese, ramen and spam are so healthy for you. They boost the amount of sodium in your body. The more sodium you have, the better your body is at processing electrolytes, which are key to your brain's health. This is why college students, who are obviously very smart, eat ramen as their primary food, because they know it gives them the essential nutrients they need for cheap.

Chlorine, the other component of salt, is one of the best things that you can ingest. It is an essential medicine that plays a key role in keeping your body clean of those pesky microorganisms. You will never suffer a cold, the flu, or any other common virus, after you make chlorine a part of your diet.

True. You are using a warp ring to distort space around you, allowing you to travel much faster than the speed of light- As illustrated here.

(I might be answering incorrectly here, actually- Warp travel might be possible. NASA has some people working on theories and such. http://io9.com/5963263/how-nasa-will-build-its-very-first-warp-drive
Just in case-)

Of course you aren't. You can't travel faster than light because Star Trek-style warp bubble theories are not possible, and FTL travel violates the laws of physics.

True. You think the writing is poor and the characterization is worse, and make constant references to it hoping that people will mock it as the terrible series that you believe it is. Secretly it burns you up that nobody has done so yet.

True, because it totally makes sense for twins to have almost exactly the same name as one another. If they look almost the same, why not be named almost the same as well? LOGIC. And the fact that you have never mentioned such a person until now suggests that you are using reverse psychology to make us believe that he does not exist when, in fact, he does.

True or false? It's a good idea to stretch the page.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on January 19, 2015, 04:48:35 AM
True. The staff loves it when people do this because it makes it easier to read the page. Scroll wheels aren't nearly as efficient as hitting the left and right arrow keys, and the brain processes text better if you scroll right (hence why advertising on billboards is so successful). We pretend to get upset when people stretch the page, but never punish them, so that everyone will be encouraged to do this.

True or false: sliding through stop signs and lights is a perfectly safe way to drive.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: James Gryphon on January 21, 2015, 12:17:40 AM
True; stop signs and lights are just suggestions, saying "We think it would be a good idea if you were to do this". But, no inanimate object has the right to command a human being how to drive. If you want to speed through a stoplight, that's your prerogative; I'm sure you must have had a good reason for it. Anyway, people learn safe driving by dodging fast-moving objects. So, every time you run a stoplight into oncoming traffic, you are helping others by improving their driving skill.

True or false: I only answered this so that someone didn't say movies were better than books.
Title: Re: 'True' if False

ninja'd: False. After all, the ultimate honor for a book is to be chosen as the basis for a new movie. No matter how bad the movie is, it is still considered better and more profitable than the book version was. For proof of this, just compare the Lord of the Rings trilogy (directed by Mr. Jackson) with the books of the same name. The films are obviously much better and more popular. Thus, movies are better than books.

False! After all, you said the same thing, and besides there are teh ninja'd posts, and anyway, movies are better than books, so why would you want to prevent somebody from saying that?

True or false: hygiene is the single most important part of life.
Title: Re: 'True' if False
Post by: Banya on July 21, 2015, 12:56:05 AM
True!  Kindness, bravery, and other qualities don't measure up to the importance placed in hygiene.  The best way to understand the character of a person is on the outward appearance and smell of their personal belongings and environment.  For proof of this, take the Boy Scout Law: "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."  These qualities grow more important as the list goes on, so the most important parts of life are found at the end.  No one actually knows what "reverent" means, making "clean" the most important thing.

True. You see, before actors and news reporters can go on television, they have to go through a special training process that makes it impossible for them to lie. Whenever you hear anyone say anything on television, you can know for a fact that it's true.

True!  Scientists are only trying to fool us.  I mean, have you ever been to Antarctica to see for yourself?  They've actually melted the ice cap to allow a new genetically-modified variety of penguin to flourish there, and now the temperature is generally around 65 degrees Fahrenheit.  Which is warm, if you're from Siberia (which most of the scientists are).  And just for show, they've replace the obsolete icebergs and such with melted paraffin 'bergs.  So simple!
