Does the bayonet count as a sword? Or as a stabbing dagger?"
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Not a sword, but it could be a dagger, depending on the type. If it is a plug bayonet, it likely is. If it is a socket bayonet, almost certainly not.

Courage: Not only the willingness to die manfully, but also the determination to live decently.

I love the Scottish Basket-Hilt Broadsword. Also the Claymore, and the German Branch Sword.

My personal favorite would be the Gothic Knight Sword, used by the early German knights who rode a horseback, the weapon was a good all around, stabbing, slashing it had good reach but was light enough to wield with one hand allowing the use of a shield. Though it does have enough weight to deal some damage and wont snap after the first five minutes of battle. It was designed to be used as a club, Basically you grab the blade (With chainmail gloves of course) and smash peoples heads with the pommel.

And what it lacks in fancy curves and adornments it makes up for in shear usefulness. This is the weapon I would be taking out onto the battle field.

Almost, the Gothic sword was more tapered but yes, they are really similar.

*Extremely similar. :P
I do like the design very much, though; quite versatile and useful.

My favorite has always been the Cold Steel Italian Ba$tard Sword
Good for short and long fighting. One and/or two handed grip. Light weight. Hardened steel makes it strong and ridiculously sharp.

Kolman

look up the Zweihänder, (a German great sword) and the Ulfberht (sword used by the actual Vikings)
For those we cherish we die in glory.

The Skarzs

Ulfbehrt was a sword made by a particular Smith, if I'm not mistaken, and it was known to be excellent quality. There were some supposed swords of lower quality made to copy Ulfbehrt swords so they could be sold at a higher price. Scammers even back then. ;D

Arabic scimitars are probably my favorite. They are good for slashing, and, if heavy enough can inflict massive amounts of damage.

French Smallsword probably, used by nobles just before and during the French Revolution, one of the first great fencing weapons. Basically the weapon one used in a duel.

Sword-breakers are cool, they break enemy weapons while still retaining the ability to stab
