Tie the mouse up in case he's an enemy, then wake him up and question him.
We don't have opposable thumbs, nor can we vocalize complex questions to ask another animal. Plus the mouse is passed out.

Descend from our perch and approach the orb.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

you approach the mouse. you do not know why this creature is here, but you assume the shouting, or whatever it was, that you heard earlier was from him. you wish you had something on you to tie him up, forgetting for a moment that you are a squirrel and he is a mouse and it is not reasonable to assume he could be your enemy. he also appears to be from the abbey.
in any case, you realize that it is not useful to question a passed out beast.
you instead go over to the orb. you have not seen something like this before, but you think you see a faint glowing.
what do you want to do?

Leave it in case it's what caused the mouse to act strangely.

you decide to stay clear of the orb. as you decide, the orb ceases all its apparent glow, and sits there, white and dim. you turn your attention back to the mouse. you consider whether you can revive or otherwise tend to the creature. you have seen no other creatures since you somehow ended up in this fortress. you also have no supplies on you, but it appears that the moues does.

I've been looking back over these past few months, and I've felt off. Felt different. At the time, I wanted nothing more than to go back to the good old days.
But now? Could I just ignore all the ways I've suffered and grown? Caught hold and let go? Could I return from life, having now lived?

you feel fine, but quickly check yourself. you find no sign of injury or illness. you tend to the mouse before you, finding no bruises or anything else of note. as you notice the bad of acorns, wondering why you think of the things as somehow not good, you notice a wooden sword leaning against the wall. you assume the sword belonged to the mouse and that he is some sort of abbey warrior. as you ponder whether to retrieve the sword, and if the two of you are alone in the fortress, you begin to hear the thump of metal emanating from beyond the door at the far end of the corridor.

... grab the sword and chuckle malevolently, daring the thing to enter the corridor.

you decide that you will not be frightened by what is coming. you go over and grab the sword, preparing to face whatever is coming, despite your uncertainty and general confusion. you chuckle loudly as you do so, deciding that you will simply laugh up to the gates of hellgates if that is how things are going to go. however, you notice once you have drawn the sword that it is broken, and you are holding only a hilt and a fractured blade. the thumping has grown quite loud. whatever is approaching the door will be at it any moment.

Hide in a corner and see who's coming. They might be friendly, after all.

you decide to hide. you have only seconds to act. you can either run around the corner, back the direction you originally came, or go into the hole. you hesitate, realizing the mouse is still on the ground and unconscious.

Mara the Wolf

Bring the mouse with you back the way you came.

Drag the mouse into the cave, and climb into a dark recess in the cave's ceiling.

(You drag the mouse into the cave with you so that you can watch over him, but also see how the approaching stranger reacts to the mouse, in order to decide if they are friends or foes...)

you decide you cannot leave the mouse here to face whatever is coming. you grab the mouse, thankful he is quite small, and begin haphazardly staggering with the creature down the corridor. you barely make it around the corner the way you assume the moues must have come fromwhen you hear the large door smash open, and the sound of spear-butts on the floor, and the distinctive rasp of what is clearly a vermin corsair of some description, but you cannot make out the orders. you continue down the corridor, faster now, until you are in a very dark section of the fortress. there is an exit to the north.
