This is one of the things that I have wondered about since my childhood and always had a problem with.

If you recall in red wall sela steals the plans of cluny and tries to sell them to the woodlanders. Of course she was fooled as they were not the real plans but in any case Constance mugs her and takes the plans! In all the books the redwallers are portrayed as peace loving creatures who hate crime and violence. In this case why is the redwall badger stealing plans violently from a fox who hasnt done a thing to her rather than buying the plans or ignoring the offer?

Constance was a bit different, she wasn't as peace-loving, in Mattimeo she says she would drown the three magpies ten times more to get Cornflower and the others off the roof, the Abbot wouldn't think of drowning even one. She does what is best for Redwall and it's creatures. And if no one has said this to you already, welcome to the forum.

I agree she wasn't as peace loving but remember sela wasn't an enemy at all and hadn't harmed any redwallers and was in fact sort of trying to help them. Idk it just seems to me like it's contradicting the whole redwall idea.

Thanks for the welcome by the way :)

Constance knew that Sela(and Chickenhound) were evil, so she basically treated them like enemies. Anyway, foxes are normally(but not always) evil in the redwall world.

p.s. welcome to the forums. I think I said that already though

Hmm evil? They are just healers how would she know they were evil?
Thanks for the welcome

Skyblade

They were healers that tricked others to gain things, I think

Yes, they had a bit of a reputation if I recall correctly.

Felldoh154

If they had a reputation why'd they let chicken hound in later?

W0NWILL

Mind you, they were an Abbey, and I'm going on what I remember, because I don't have the book in Iowa, belive it or not.

Felldoh154

Ya people at abbeys generally don't mug others for battle plans. Ehh, maybe I'm just crazy though  :-\

Remember Constance wasn't as peace-loving as the other Abbeybeasts. They only let Chickenhound in later because he was wounded and they were taken in by his lies.

I bet constance would have kicked him out but The abbot let him stay.

Constance hated Sela because Sela was a traitor to Cluny and so would be dangerous to trust.

Redwall was also the first book.  If you've read a lot of Redwall books, you'll see that sometimes situations, character traits, and stuff that were in the early stories do not reappear in the later ones as Mr. Jacques became more comfortable with the series.  With that being said, foxes have never been willingly allowed into the abbey for reasons already stated by other members, so this isn't so unusual.
