I've calmed down a bit and I agree. Even though Trump has a red congress, he's too extreme for a lot of Republicans, so there's a good chance he won't get some of his more controversial ideas past congress. I just hope he doesn't get assassinated like people have been saying he will.

The most likely thing is nothing is going to change for the average person. Trump is not going to fulfil most of his promises now that he's president. (I do hope he doesn't ban abortion though.)

Why?

Jukka the Sling

I think it's insane/hilarious/disturbing how so many Hillary supporters have acted like complete crybabies in the wake of this election.  There's videos everywhere of her supporters sobbing like babies.  A high school is offering grief counseling.  Grief counseling!  (Can you imagine them offering that if Trump had lost?  I can't either.)  College students have walked out and protested.  And an elementary school kid in Texas was badly beaten up by some classmates when he said he'd voted for Trump in his school's mock election.

Sore losers.

Hope @Jet the binturong doesn't mind me snagging this, but, as always, he says things better than I could ever dream of.

I know people are done with politics, so consider this philosophical. I made one correction to it, but otherwise it is raw emotion.

Drabble
I'm watching a man on my screen as he takes the stage to thunderous applause. A girl sits next to me, there are tears in her eyes. By my other side is a boy too angry to cry.

I once knew a girl who was shouted at on the street because she chose to wear a scarf that covered her head.

I once knew a boy who was mocked by his peers because his brain worked differently to theirs.

I once knew a man who was attacked on the platform because his skin was browner than they liked.

I once knew a boy who jumped off a bridge because he was told his love was wrong.

I once knew a woman who was beaten to death because her brain did not match her body.

The girl sitting next to me wipes tears from her eyes with a scarf she was shouted at for wearing, and we watch the man on the screen.

On my other side, a boy clenches his fist, an action controlled by a brain that works differently to mine, and we watch the man on the screen.

The boy sitting next to me has a love that people have told him is wrong.

The girl sitting next to me has a brain that does not match her body.

And both of their skin is browner than people like.

And we watch the man on the screen.

Because the man on the screen has hurt the girl with the head scarf and the boy with the different brain. He wants to stop the girl's grandparents from visiting her. He wants to force the boy's parents to go back to a place they are not safe. He made fun of a man whose brain worked differently to his.

He says he wants to protect the love that people think is wrong and the people whose brains do not match their bodies, but the man standing next to him is the person who said that, and the crowd that put him on stage is silent.

Behind me my grandfather taps the stump that used to be his leg and thinks of the time he was captured by monsters with the faces of men. But the man on the screen likes the people who weren't caught.

The man on the screen says he wants to make his country great.

But this country's greatness comes from its people. It comes from girls who wear head scarfs and boys with brains that work differently. It comes from brains that don't match bodies and hearts full of love that is wrong. It comes from people with skin that is browner than others and men that were captured by monsters.

I am not like the people around me. My skin is not browner and there is no scarf around my head. My brain does not work differently, and it matches my body. And my heart beats with love that is not wrong.

But I fear for my country.

Because the supporters of the man on the screen will attack skin that is browner than theirs, and different brains that don't match bodies. They will attack girls with head scarfs and boys who feel love they think wrong. And men haunted by monsters wearing human masks will be powerless to stop them.

So I fear for our country. Not for myself, but for the people around me. Will they be taken from me by pale people with similar brains that match their bodies who do not wear head scarfs and whose hearts beat with hate that is right?

The people around me do not think this land free, and they must make homes in their hearts to be brave.

This country will be great if its people are great.

So I hope for their country, and I watch the man on the screen.

Obviously the character is not me, but inspired by many comments I have seen.

i typed out a whole rant in response to Jukka the Sling and them I accidentally stupidly ERASED THE WHOLE THING and its probably for the best anyway I got pretty irritated
The gist of it was that people are crying not because theyre sore losers but because having an openly rascist, mysogynist, honophobic orange weasel in a position of power LITERALLY THREATENS PEOPLES SAFETY because now all the rascists, mysoginsts, and homophobes can justify their actions. He empowers hate.

If you say so.  But I don't know of any conservatives who cried when Obama got elected... twice.

Still: grief counseling.  I can't get over that one. XD

@Jukk, the thing about the Hillary sign in a metal cage is hilarious.

I'm not suprised that there were no Hillary signs near where Peo lives; it is a red state and a mostly rural one, too. I saw countless Trump signs and banners while driving through the countryside in my state a month ago; that's the way rural areas lean. All the counties with major cities and universities, though, went blue. That's a general and predictable trend; large and diverse concentrations of people tend to be more open-minded and accepting. I honestly expected Trump to win the election - in our lifetimes, the Presidency has tended to go back and forth between the major parties. I just didn't want it. People are crying because they're upset and scared, not because they're sore losers. My university had a vigil, which was great for standing together and reminding the Arab and Punjabi and Latina and all other students that their education will not be interrupted, this campus is a safe space and they belong here, and none of us will stand by and allow words or acts of hate. I don't agree with students being excused from class for the week because they can't handle it, though, because they should continue living their normal lives. But I agree with Ashe on this, that not many of the promises made during the campaign will be kept, hopefully.
Thanks for posting that, Jet. Well said.

^Yeah

I wonder what part of the political spectrum he's going to play now, and if he'll still be as radical as he was during the campaign.

I was listening to Bill Burr commenting on the election, he's making it hilarious as always. ;D

He's not conservative by any means, but he might try to stay on the Republican side just to keep their "support".

Would you like me to link a fic that also sums up my feelings and the nation's feelings? Oh, wait, I can't. It's Malec.

Oh.  I thought at first that you meant a Malec story you'd written.  You've been working on one for the past few months, right?
